What games do you like to replay the most, and what makes them so replayable?

For me it's Satisfactory and Big Ambitions, and to a lesser extent strategy games like Civ. Atlas used to be on this list before the devs destroyed it then ran away. Racing games are also good for being replayable whether you are playing against AI or people.

Big Ambitions just has so many options that it's different every time I play it. So many different types of businesses you can run. And the properties are randomly generated as far as what is available any given game. Also, they've had major updates every few months ever since it launched that have added a bunch of new content.

Satisfactory involves a lot of building and you can try different things every game.

And obviously games like Civ or Stellaris play out differently each time.

Games with tons of content:

Rimworld: I haven't even scratched the surface of this game honestly. There are so many different ways to set up a game between starting location, number of starting colonists, colonist traits, available technology at the start and which factions exist in the world. And that's just how you start a game.
Dwarf Fortress: similar to Rimworld, but with more mechanics and thus more ways to set up/specialise your fortress. There are entire systems I haven't even interacted with.
Total War: Warhammer: there are 24 races in the game, each with distinct mechanics, and I've only played 9 of them. Then each race has, I think, on average, about 3 distinct faction leaders to choose from each with their own (preferred) play style for that faction.
Conquest of Elysium: another game with a ton of content. It's easy to pick up and it takes seconds to start a new game, but every game has something new to see.
Hearthstone Tombs of Terror: while this mode itself doesn't get updated, there are a ton of cards in Hearthstone that generate random cards and these cards are always pulled from the current Standard format, which changes each year. So I come back to it about once a year to play through it again with the new cards.
FrogComposband: so many races/classes to choose from, each with their own play style. So many monsters to encounter, each with their own strengths and weaknesses.

Games I play to relax:

Civilization: also has a ton of ways to set up a game, but it's more of my chill game when I don't want to have to think too much. I haven't played it in a while because a game takes so long.
Skyrim: at this point replaying Skyrim is like rewatching a series/movie I've seen a dozen times already. I know exactly what to expect, but it can still be nice revisiting it every so often.
Vermintide 2: a different kind of relaxing. I come back to this game whenever I want to play something I can get in the zone with.

Game I just want to beat at some point:

Angband: with every run I learn a bit more, at some point I will reach the end.

I don't know how I forgot Total War Warhammer...

Right now I am enjoying replays of Straftat. It is 1vs1 FPS with tons of maps and ridiculous weapons to use. It is very fast-paced with rocket jumping, crouch sliding, and will make you do a lot swearing! It is also free to play so an extra win there.

Other than that BG3 is high on that list because of a brilliant story, tons of ways to play the game considering all the races, classes, and subclasses, and all the different items you can utilize for specific builds or just for plain fun.

Refer my top 4 answers here:

too soon to repeat it. Lots of content. Could add Titan Quest as well, but Grim Dawn is essentially the same idea. Lots of classes and class combos. Seriously, I had to stop playing the game as my steam save folder ran out of space for new characters.

One I can add since list doesn't exclude Internet access... Journey. Why?? um, the people you can meet make the every game unique. Sure, backdrop is always the same but how they react isn't. I don't know how active it is now, since its 10 or more years old now.

I don't end up replaying stuff usually, but do play games repeatedly that are essentially the same experience, such as Transport Fever 2.

For whatever reason, once I complete a game, even if it's something like RimWorld that has a definitive ending, yet could be replayed, a switch in my brain flips and I just stop thinking about that game. Even if I want to go back to it and tie up loose ends or just generally give it another go, I struggle to actually play it for any appreciable time.

I used to be different, but things changed. I really wish I could go back and replay a lot of stuff, but I always end up thinking I could be playing something in my library I haven't touched yet.

My three biggest replayed games would be Mass Effect, Dragon Age Inquisition, and Skyrim.

Mass Efect (and its sequels) have such great characters, such a great setting, I love the reapers as the bad guys, and its music. They combine well together to make a truly unique experience in gaming.

Inquisition for much the same reason (except dragons and not reapers).

Skyrim, because well, it's Skyrim. Playing Skyrim, to me, is like an interactive lo-fi or chill mixtape. It just oozes charm and chill out vibes and every time I play I can make it something quite different to the last time I played thanks to something like 400 billion mods.

Honorable mention to Hitman World of Assasination for replayability through custom made contracts and elusive targets.

There are 2 games that spring to mind:

path of exile - every league makes significant additional features that somehow makes the game fresh and playable again. The challenge rewards makes it an enticing reward. Sometimes i skip a league or 2 if its not interesting or the league rewards are cack, but for the most part i play them. The game can be grindy, but at least doable. What kills me enthusiasm is when the later challenges are more luck based and expensive.

Doom 2 - if it wasn't for the mapping/modding community, i wouldn't playing it all this time. But the constant stream of megawads has meant that the community is going 25+ years strong and i'm still playing the game every weekend. As most of you know i'm playing the RAMP 2024 pack and it has made me tempted to make my own map and submissions for RAMP. An easier said than done tbh.

I have many games I go back to often, and one thing that is common amongst all of them is open-ended gameplay. Sandbox games like Minecraft, Garry's Mod, Teardown, and Skate 3 offer near endless entertainment, then large open world games like Fallout New Vegas and 4, Elder Scrolls, Cyberpunk and Red Dead Redemption 2 let you replay the game in many different styles and gives you freedom to find a gameplay style that suits you and to do whatever you want within the game. These games are all my most replayed, I love how open-ended they are, I can always find something new to do or explore that I haven't done before.
