On October 23rd Valve released an update allowing players to trade up their Covert weapons (second to highest tier skins aka reds, right below knives and gloves) into a knife or a pair of gloves. So 5 covert skins can create one knife or pair of gloves.

This update erupted panic in the community, dropping the biggest in-game economy from 6$ billion to 3$ billion in 24 hours. 3rd party skin trading sites went offline minutes after the update got pushed because users tried to cash out their skins.

What are you guys thoughts on this? Was this a correct update from Valve? Is this "the end" for CS skins? Interested in seeing how this evolves with time.

Does this constitute as an FPS thread?

I personally think the update is a TERRIBLE idea. A lot of players who had thousands, if not millions, of dollars/euros/pounds etc. invested in that market has evaporated. I do believe that someone hurt themselves over this matter.

I dont think there wouldve been an easier way to introduce this kind of update. Its such bad timing since the CS skins markets been around since 2013. I personally dont mind because i think people should have a better chance to get a gold item but i dont have thousands invested in a market thats been around for 12 years.
