What if Gears of War E-Day, which is being made on UE 5, turns out to be THE pinnacle of performance on UE 5, despite the game being a prequel involving the collapse of a large scale city when Emergence first happens? And what if without Ferguson it's written so well that it is massively successful to the point of warranting Coalition doing full on PC remakes of GoW 2, 3, and even 1?
This is my hope anyway, be it unlikely or not. What makes me think it's possible is Gow 4 and Gears 5 were done on UE 4, which has been known to have performance issues on many games, but those titles ran pretty well. It's probably more likely to have performance issues on UE 5, but hopefully enough has been learned about it by now that E-Day will come off smoothly.
I happen to love GoW, and thought GoW 4 and Gears 5 were a bit unfairly bashed. I was actually more upset that the GoW Ultimate Edition for W10 was never given what I would call an adequate remaster, as it had a game breaking bug where you couldn't even play it all the way through due to still being tied to Games for Windows LIVE, which was defunct by then!
Despite some glaring mistakes, it's still a great franchise, and I for one think it deserves all of the above to keep it going. It is said (according to Ferguson), Coalition wants to use Gears 6 as a platform for future Gears titles. So I'm hoping for great things from E-Day and 6! I also think time is right to do an E-Day prequel first, since the tech they have now finally makes it possible.
Here's the Gears of War E-Day announce trailer if you haven't seen it. Since this is during the time of the first emergence, it's said there won't be any Lancers. Will we split heads with, a fire axe maybe, or just use a bayonet as shown?
