The Big Year: What 2025 Games are You Most Looking Forward To?

Per the folks at our fan site, PC Gamer, 2025 is going to be a huge year for games. Basically that means AAA games, so that doesn't do me that much good, but I've looked through the following list and found quite a few games that I'm pretty excited for.

My list (of the games they have in the article)...

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33
Nivalis
Two Point Museum
Aloft
Era One
Subnautica 2
Assetto Corsa Evo
Orcs Must Die! Deathtrap
Beyond These Stars
Generation Exile
Menace
Solasta 2
Voyagers of Nera

In no particular order

Like A Dragon: Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii
Split Fiction
(gf and I loved It Takes Two)
Death Stranding 2
Avowed
Orcs Must Die Deathtrap
Mafia Old Country
Two Point Museum
DOOM Dark Ages
Nivalis
Killing Floor 3
AC Shadows
GTA 6
(don’t have a current gen console though)
Revenge of the Savage Planet
Crimson Desert

There are just so many games I’m interested in coming out in 2025. I don’t think there has ever been a year where there are this many games i’m excited for. There’s a ton more but I thought my list was getting too long already.

Civilization 7 - I'll probably get this once I can get it on sale with its two major expansions.

Subnautica 2 - I still need to play Subnautica: Below Zero first, but I expect I'll play this at some point.

Avowed - if this turns out to be a particularly good game I'll probably pick it up once I have a PC that can run it.

Gold Gold Adventure Gold - reminds me a bit of Black & White, but I have my doubts it'll hold up to my expectations.

Sniper Elite: Resistance - I liked Sniper Elite 3 (or 4?), so I might play this one day as well.

Dune: Awakening - I'm mostly curious about how they're going to bring the Dune world alive. I doubt I'll have time to actually play it, but my wife loves Dune and if she decides to buy it I might try it out.

Fable - I liked the first Fable game, but my expectations are very low based on the later games in the series.

The very first game on the list is GTA6, which is almost certainly not showing up for PC in 2025!? I suppose it technically could happen but come on! Might as well put Breath of the Wild on there, too.
  • Civ 7
  • Avowed
  • Death Stranding 2
  • FF7 Rebirth
  • Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2
  • Yakuza Pirates? Dunno, this one has serious shark jumping potential.
  • The Alters
  • Expedition 33
  • Solasta 2
  • Subnautica 2
  • Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2
In the could-possibly-happen-in-2024 category
  • Light No Fire
  • Judas
Others not in the article
  • Wayward Realms
  • Warped Space
  • Star Citizen: Squadron 42 (it could happen!!)

Rockstar is all over the place when it comes to PC releases. GTA IV came out little over 7 months after console release (April 2008 - December 2008), GTA V took 1 year and 7 months (September 2013 - April 2015), and RDR2 was 1 year and 1 month (October 2018 - November 2019).

It’s so hard to judge whether it will be sooner or later for the PC release. One thing is clear to me though, don’t get your hopes up for a PC release in 2025😥

A lot of good games have been listed that i would be interested in. The problem is that i'm mostly indifferent atm as my pc isn't going to run them and i'm looking at my backlog to finish.

I guess its just Path of exile 2, but i'm not falling for the hype as i'm just waiting for the various updates and content to be released. Early access is something i generally don't touch.

This is my problem also. I was so excited for Stalker 2 but wasn’t sure if I could run it so I played on Game Pass. Turns out my PC barely hangs on as I play. After that I didn’t even bother trying out Indiana Jones because I knew it would be the same. I always prefer frames to graphics quality, but these games especially looks terrible at low settings, and even then I’m barely getting 30fps. This is why I’ve been looking back in my Steam library and making a list of games I want to revisit.

Upcoming games don't automatically mean that they're more hardware demanding. There were a lot of celebrated games this year I'm sure would run in most people's computers, and surely next year's will provide more.

On the other hand I'm all for replaying or finally deciding to try older games! This year I had a lot more fun playing older games I hadn't got into than the games that actually came out in 2024. They might have been old but they were new to me...

Atm i can't think of any indie games that spring to mind. Maybe Voin, but the other thing is that i don't buy games on release, so i don't really get excited about games released in 2025.

But that said, if we're hoping for games to play/buy in 2025, i do have a massive backlog of games on my wishlist, namely Judgement, lost judgement, like a dragon but we'll see if the price drops to a point i would consider buying.

I would like the planet coaster DLC as well, but when the DLC costs MORE then the base game i something has to be wrong...

Given Planet Coaster only costs $4 on the shop and the Frontier collection includes 10 DLC packs (+ 3 other games with their dlc), I can see why there is a price difference.

It has to be said that some of the DLC is cheaper than the games current price but some is more expensive as well

Planet Coaster 2 is out... given I never really played PC 1 I think I save my money.

I haven't looked at spec requirements for new games recently. I will worry about that when I buy one next year.

Out of that entire list only one peaked my interest. Legend of Aween it says a celtic inspired crpg. Maybe that will be cool and exciting.

I am interested in seeing what happens with the vampire the masquerade 2 though, I'm not into vampires and never played the first though apparently I own it for a 2 dollar sale. Still the development saga has been a roller coaster.

The game I will most likely buy, though is from this years and, that would be starwars outlaws.

Outside of that, maybe crusader kings 3 will get a diplomacy/spying update. If that happens I'll be all over it, but I have a sneaking suspicion that it will be a crusade update and that will mean another year of passing on dlc.

But hey, if I find a hidden gem, Like outlaws, and find just one other game I'll call it a successful year. :)

Titan Quest 2... I don't know if its in article as I can't read... but it is only game I know I want now.

I might fill in the gaps if I find anything else. But so far, thats it.

Same here. This is the only that I'm aware of as I haven't looked at what else is releasing apart from the mentions in this thread. I'm eagerly anticipating this one.

@Pifanjr also mentioned Fable. I'll likely be in for that one as well.

Going down the list from the article, games on my wishlist:

Doom: The Dark Ages
Liked the other new Doom games, will play this for sure.

Citizen Sleeper 2.
First game was fun and unique, will play another and see what they do with it.

Avowed.
The Pillars world is interesting enough but Ive never managed to finish either of the games even if I spent triple digit hours there. Hopefully they land the combat.

The Last of Us Part Two.
Will wait and see if the port is any good at release but I can see this being a buy close to release if its not a shambles.

The Alters.
Ive liked 11 Bit stuff and this looks weird enough to keep a close eye on.

Alliance of the Sacred Suns.
Crusader Kings in space. Hopefully more than that but its more than enough of a reason to keep it on the wishlist.

There'll be more, I dont tend to follow new games obsessively before they release. If something ends up being really good that wasnt on the radar then generally you hear about it somewhere. If not its not like theres a shortage of other stuff to play.

If i recall correctly, the cheaper ones are more one set pieces (eg ghost busters, knight rider etc) whereas the more expensive ones are themes and adds content to the base game (more pieces, rides and i believe campaign missions). I have been googling/youtubing the DLC and the ones i really want are the studios, adventure and spooky pack (as well as world's fair pack for customization) as they add more meaningful content. The cheapest for all dlc was £8. I could buy a full game like hades for that price.

But this is frontier, so of course we're going to be jammed with DLC and its deeply annoying. It feels like a part of the game is missing. Especially certain themes and ideas like the haunted/spooky theme (a staple of most themeparks) is just missing. The same can be said for Planet zoo as well, but at least thats just adding animals/biomes as opposed to adding mechanics to a game.

Alliance of the Scared Suns.
I had this feeling the 2nd last word was a typo and I was right :)

sacred made more sense

I mean, I guess I could understand Scared suns forming an alliance :)
