I don't get buying anything virtual like that
There's an interesting experiment called Second Life which has been going for nearly 20 years. It's similar to the new buzzword metaverse. It has a currency—exchangeable for fiat currency—economy, and trade in goods and services.

My GF was in it for a few years early on, even bought a retail space for our business there. It's got plenty of serious uses and has been studied extensively by economists, social scientists, etc.
