Hello Everyone. i've Got Windows 11 24H2 i installed Windows 10 January 2024 ISO earlier this year then updated to Windows 11 24H2 and Steam has been working 100% until the last Steam Update I DON'T WANT TO UNINSTALL STEAM I've GOT A TON OF BIG GAMES INSTALLED.

What happens is if i like download Half-Life 1 and it goes Up to 4 MB/S then down to 3 meg 2 meg 1 meg 902.6 KB/S then 874 KB/s Then down to 574 KB/s it just keeps dropping eventually it reaches 4 KB/S and then the download fails 😢😭

I had speed/net issues years ago like that and for me it was the lines coming into my house from the road/junction outside. They had to replace my lines.

So my question is.... do your speeds do that when you download other things from the net or stream movies?

What kind of drive are you downloading to? Steam dumps files on you and then if you are on a slow drive, you have to wait while these files actually install. During this time, your download speeds appear to slow to a crawl. Having slowdowns like that is common on Steam, but having the download fail altogether isn't common.

The first thing Valve would tell you to do is to clear your download cache. Steam>Settings>Downloads>Clear Cache

I wonder if this has anything to do with it? Showed up in my news feed last night. Apparently 24H2 is wreaking havoc on Ubisoft games and causing crashes, and I also read that it's crashing the Ubisoft launcher. Nothing has been said about the Steam launcher, but if it can affect the Ubisoft launcher, why not any other launcher? But of course, the fact that Ubisoft is affected could just be because it's Ubisoft.

On another note, and while I doubt this might have anything to do with it since you said it seemed to have started with a recent Steam update, but for what it's worth, suddenly one day a few years ago I could no longer use 5G to download games on my laptop. They would start fast, then increment down to very slow speeds just like your issue, although for me it wouldn't fail entirely. I had to switch to 2.4 or go upstairs and hook in to my router. I could never figure out why, though admittedly I'm not a network guy. For cost reasons, I decided to switch providers about a year ago and also upgraded to 500 Mbps service. The problem continued. I finally upgraded to a WiFi 6 router 2 months ago and the problem completely went away. Seems it was something to do with my old router, which was an old D-Link model from the 2010s, but I never made any settings changes and was never really sure what the problem was.
