I'm kind of hoping they just give it to all original owners for free, so I can check it out at no cost to me.

I went ahead and bought the GOTY edition, so hopefully I can compare if they do give us the remaster.

At least a steeper discount than the 10% preorder discount that's currently being given. Makes me think maybe not. We didn't get even System Shock 2 for free and that wasn't an entire remake like SS1 was.

That was from a month ago. Microsoft Bob style voice acting, dreadful particle effects, dreadful animations, and the player never lost more than a few hp, which came right back again. Seriously, I think he could have stopped fighting and even the big boss at the end couldn't have overcome his regeneration rate.

That said, I'm all for a subscription fee. You need to have a viable product, obviously, but assuming you've got a fun game and plan on adding more content roughly every month, it should work out nicely. I like that a lot better than the hidden cost model for free-to-play games.

EA is reportedly about to be sold in a record-setting $50 billion buyout to an investor group that includes private equity and Saudi Arabia

The deal could go through as early as next week.

There's definitely a few things I like in there and EA generally sucks, but leveraged buyouts by private equity is always a bad thing. PE is a scourge.

There's definitely a few things I like in there and EA generally sucks, but leveraged buyouts by private equity is always a bad thing. PE is a scourge.

Another concern is the involvement of Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund in the acquisition deal. The country's government is well known for abusing human rights. The case of the murder of Jamal Ahmad Hamza Khashoggi is still fresh in my memory. They have been investing massively in the global entertainment sector to cover up their atrocities.

Getting off the stock market sounds like a good thing. Exchanging short term investors that just want to see profits NOW for a hodge podge of big investors that just want to see profits in the next couple of quarters - I don't know. I could see it being a good thing, but I could also see it as a great way to open the floodgate to move development jobs to nations where they can exploit the workforce. Making EA itself take on all the debt for buying EA is friggin' ridiculous and can't be good. I'm surprised banks can be convinced to give those loans out.

I think I'll probably get Jedi Survivor this sale, just in case.
