If you find a maze, pick a wall (right or left) and follow it. You should be able to find your way out of most all mazes where you're trying to get to the other side. It can work well with mazes where you are trying to get to the center, too. You can even use the method in complex levels as an initial stab at mapping the place. It may seem slower, but it prevents you from searching through the same places over and over again.
