Bit of both actually. Watched the whole thing since it is of interest to me. He did an excellent job at explaining everything. Unfortunately, he explained just the tonic part. Few things he skipped but assuming it was because it is deeper into the music field.
Oh, he's got a BUNCH of other videos on music theory stuff. He likes to use examples in popular songs if he can find them (especially Radiohead).

And yeah, of course music is easy! Well, mostly. Knowing how to speak Italian helps.

And then there's this whole clef business. When writing out music, you would obviously want to put middle C in the middle, right? If you've got a particularly high or low instrument, you just do the same thing with the C that's an octave above or below in the center. That way, it's easy for everybody to read everybody else's music.

But nooooooooo!

We get this treble and bass clef business. They take a nice, wholesome clef with middle C in the middle, and they rip it apart! Bass clef gets the bottom, treble gets the top, and NEITHER gets middle C! To do middle C on either of them, you have to draw the note off the given lines and put your own little lines in! Seriously!?

But wait, what about a piano. That thing covers a huge range but is played by one person. Surely.... NOT! The player's right hand is supposed to play in treble clef while the left plays in bass clef!! <insert Star Trek double-facepalm meme>

And that is why viola players, who use a clef with middle C in the fraggin' middle, are the only sane people in an orchestra.

Well I can see that you have read the curriculum for the year for lvl 1 entry music theory. That is just the beginning of all the how's and why's. Different dots next to notes means different things (Short notes, longer than usual notes etc), and Arrow to the right under a note does not mean we are going louder from here and a slur and ties looks the same on paper but sounds different when played. O and let's not forget there are several Clefs some played 15 higher, or 8 lower etc. Some even indicates that it is for both treble and bass together.

Fun and games! all the time with notations. LOL

Walked into a shopping mall about 2 weeks ago and they were already playing Christmas songs.

This one is for those who will not be with us for Christmas this year and even for us who cannot be where we would like to be for Christmas.

On a side note. Someone (Not sure if I can say their name as yet) contacted me and asked permission to make a cover version of one of my songs (Not sure think they might be adding lyrics to it as well). I granted them permission, and all the documents was signed and delivered last night. Will share it with you guys as soon as it is available. The cover artist is not from my country, so time differences are making things a bit hard.

Breaking this post up into pieces (spoilers) because having a feeling it is going to be lengthy but very informative to some.

I recently had to open an Instagram account for Charagma (Artist) which in its own proved more challenging than what I thought. I am not that tech savvy so "assumed" it is like FB and you can post and write and share odds n ends. As most of you will know (I did not) it is not like FB at all. This thing works on video's. This placed me in the predicament that none of my tracks has music video's and from what I saw I cannot just upload an audio file or share a link.

Low and behold! Microsoft says that Clipchamp can do everything my heart desire on music videos. Honestly I still have not gotten it to open up (Stuck at the "getting things ready" screen. Nothing I found online got me past this point.

I then remembered that I got Video Studio as a "present" (aka bribe) when I showed interest in replacing my mixing table to something more up to date. Think all of you remember when I wanted to get the Behringer wing. Installed it, got it registered and then asked me for my files...........ummmm well all I have is audio files in .wav or mp3, take your pick, but it insisted on image files.

After just aimlessly wondering how to get this I started looking at pictures on the internet. Most (if not all) was copyrighted or watermarked. This in short means I cannot use it for marketing/music video still images. So was back to the drawing board.

Now this is where things got interesting. I could say what I have in mind and it will give me a visual representation of "it" Played around with some wording and got some really nice images, royalty free. From what I understand (from the legal side of things) since it is originally my "idea" and my ideas are different to others, the images I have is my own creation and useable as music video still images. This however gave me an idea (seeing that the legal side explained it to me so nicely)

I started by asking Copilot for a standard D minor chord progression. It returned with about 8 different progressions. Few of them normal every day, others, well honestly, very nice but to basic for my liking. I asked it for a unique progression with added harmonics to it. This made it very interesting and from start to finish took me about 2Hrs to have a good solid working Chord progression. Before anyone calls me an "AI ABUSER" firstly this I normally do in Scaler and takes me about the same time. So different software (Application) same result, same time usage. Note it just gives: "Dm, Fm, Gsus4" Etc. Nothing fancy and the user (me) still need to know what it is all about and what to do with it. Even though I was happy with the progression I was able to ask it to change two chords for me to Mixolydian Scale for added dramatic effect. this transposition went smoothly but round about here Copilot started realising that I know about this kind of stuff and started offering extra tings. One of the things it kept asking was "Do you want an example of the chord progression in a verse?" Figured why not thinking I am now dangerously stepping close to what I hate about AI music generators. few minutes later he had a verse with chord in it for me. LMAO, actually very funny but will copy and paste:

Verse:

Dm Bb

This is where your lyrics would go,

F C

Words Words Words, lyrics would go.

Dm Bb

lyrics would go, words words words,

F C

This is where your lyrics would go

Note the Mixolydian chords are just swops inside but uses the same Chord symbols. I then decided to see how far I can push everything seeing that my verse is "where my lyrics would go"

Asked it for a melody, additional harmonics, instruments, moods, arpeggio styles etc. Tried my best for it to give me a complete song that I can just put in Dorico and play it. I was unsuccessful. Melody results was pretty much just an explanation of which notes are best to be used within the key. Eventually got it to give me an example but was three notes for verse one. Harmonics, aka Soprano (+3 Semi) and Alto(-3 Semi) was a mess. Every time I changed the Semi's it would generate a new Chord progression for the sample verse (yes the one I posted). Instruments, this was fairly spot-on. Suggested a flute, a violin, contrabass and a grand piano. Three vocals, being lead, soprano and Alto. Moods, again kept changing the chord progression. Was trying to get it to change melody notes. Changing the last note of a melody in a bar changes the mood of a song. Copilot was unable t get this right (maybe my wording was wrong since it is fairly common knowledge). Arpeggio's I must say was great. Here I learned a few more Arpeggio styles and am definitely going to be using them.

So, with all of that said, the reason for my post.

I am completely against AI generated music. No matter how "nice" it sounds, it is stolen from an artist who sat for days composing. So, for me it is just plain wrong. Pushing Copilot (Which I originally thought was the same as *do not think I may give their names here*), I realised it is not what I thought it was. Yes, was able to create a chord progression as well as some sort of melody but in the end, I still needed to do the work and understand what copilot is saying. Simply stated copilot works on GIGO like most systems. aka Garbage in, Garbage out.

I am not even feeling bad for saying I tried and used some of it. I would have done similar in Scaler or Tone space. Similar time frame with less effort, maybe, but copilot was able to explain why certain notes can be used outside a chords set where with scaler and tone space it is "Set to stone". BTW, yes, the notes I eventually chose works well even though they are outside the key.

Will take a few days (or weeks), for the new track to be composed but as always will post it here. Just think I will change the lyrics a bit LMAO
