Finally, after 8 SSFHC deaths in Path Of Exile 2, I beat the campaign and am through to the interlude and towards endgame mapping.
SSF (solo self-found) means you can only get items from mob loot, what you craft, or NPCs. You play alone, so you can't trade with players.
HC in SSFHC stands for Hardcore, which means you only have one life, and if you die, you will get removed from the Hardcore league.
It's been fun finding my own build and learning a bit more about how to grow my character, especially looking at finding the balance between defence and offence. I died a couple of times to the last final Act 4 boss (20-30 hours into the game) and while it hurt losing my characters, it also makes me better.
If you take a look at my screenshot, you'll see that I have almost maxed out in all resistances (90% is the cap) and decent enough armour and evasion. So while I have OK damage from my spells, it is mainly the defence that keeps me going.
I play as a battlemage type, using cold spells for freeze damage and putting mobs in a frozen state is both fun and helpful in preventing too much damage. I also got something called Iron Ward with bleed that explodes in physical damage for a % of the damaged I migitated, while also putting a bleed stack on the enemies. Pretty cool buff that makes me less squishy when surrounded by enemies.
From the first screenshot, you can see my battlemage, but also one of my other SSFHC characters who unfortunately died. I keep him around to test out different boss mechanics; the other ones that died, I manually deleted.
It is incredibly fun to play on SSFHC, because each new character means another adventure with new items that could completely change how I want to play my character. In my latest run, I started as a lightning battlemage, but got a very good staff for cold damage, so I completely changed up my playstyle to complement it.
