I am building a new Gaming PC (for DCS World) and have purchased all the components. I need some advice when related to motherboard RGB and NZXT Kraken/Fan RGB and/or functionality of the CPU Cooler.
Here is my new system spec list:
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D (New)
Motherboard: MSI MPG Carbon X670E (New)
GPU: MSI Ventus 3X OC RTX 4080 (Will be taken from my current system)
CPU Cooler: NZXT Kraken X73 RGB 360 (New)
RAM: Corsair Vengence 6000MHz [2 x 16 GB] (New)
Storage: Samsung 990 Pro NVMe 4TB (Purchased a few weeks ago and in my current system and 33% full)
Samsung 980 Evo NVMe 2TB (1 year old and will be re-formatted when installed to the new system)
Seagate Barracuda SSD 2TB (2 years old and will be taken from current system)
Seagate Barracuda Pro HDD 10TB (New)
Case: NZXT H9 Flow (New) [Comes with (4) Non-RGB Fans (3 side fans and 1 rear fan)]
Case Fans: (6)NZXT F120 Duo RGB fans [(3) Side and (3) Bottom] (New)
(1) NZXT F120 RGB fan [rear panel] (New)
Power Supply: NZXT C1200 3.0 ATX 1200 Watts (New)
Operating System: Windows 11
I used PCPartPicker for the initial spec compatibility checks and, with the exception a possible BIOS update for the CPU, everything looked fine.
I was drawn to the MSI Carbon MPG X670E motherboard for its M2 slots, IO, and that cool RGB dragon on the heatsink. My son purchased the NZXT H9 Flow case and I really liked it when I built his system (great cable management and lots of room). The NZXT site showed RGB fans (with the lighted ring) on the top side, side, and bottom and that really looked cool as well.
This is my first venture into RGB as my other systems were mainly performance-based and aesthetics were not important to me. I want this PC to be a great performer and look great doing it.
However, when I started researching how to arrange the wiring for the RGB of the case fans, RAM, and CPU cooler fans, I started discovering possible conflicts or disconnects between the mobo RGB/RAM RGB and the NZXT components (Kraken and case fans). Upon fine tuning my wiring plan, I discovered that MSI Mystic Light (the MSI RGB software) only supports certain components listed on the MSI site (I checked it and none of my components, RAM, case fans, or CPU Cooler are supported. Wonderful!!) NZXT CAM (NZXT RGB software) cannot control or work with other manufacturer's on-board RGB, only NZXT motherboards (and really I don't think they have any RGB to speak of). Again, another whammy.
My initial plan was to run everything through the Mystic Light software so I could have all RGB controlled through one software (the best scenario). I purchased an Asiahorse fan/rgb hub to run everything through that and then connect to a RGB or ARGB header on the motherboard. But what about the CPU cooler? How do I control the CPU cooler with this arrangement? And although the Asishorse hub says it can work with Mystic Light, the fans are not what Mystic Light is compatible with. Does that matter when going through a hub?
Ok, back up and punt. What about just running the board and RAM RGB off of Mystic Light and run the Cooler and case fans off of CAM? Will there be a conflict with that?
Another scenario, this mobo has a switch on the motherboard that disables the on-board RGB and perhaps the RAM RGB also. I can disable the on-board stuff, not install Mystic Light and then just run CAM for the Cooler and case fans. Not what I would hope for, but at least no conflict with the (2) RGB softwares. Correct?
I am waffling on what course of action I need to take with this RGB stuff. And I don't want to purchase more stuff until I know what can be done for the RGB. Please advise.
