Question Need help!

Hi all,

I'm new to PC gaming, I have absolutely no clue and am in no way tech savvy.

I recently ordered myself a gaming PC and was hoping to get thoughts on the build I was reccomended and what it will open up for me in terms of gaming capabilities?

You already ordered it? If so, it may be a bit too late for our opinion.

I have few doubts regarding this setup. First the PSU while is good brand, is probably on the edge of being sufficient for all these components and I would personally go for something more close to 600W.

The RAM could surely be a bit faster, with Ryzen it's way more important to have high speed RAM than with Intel's processors. This motherboard can go up to 3200Mhz which is recommended for Ryzen CPU's.

As for GPU, I assume there's some better options around it's price range as well, but I am sure somebody else will point that out soon.

If you could cancel the order and tell us your budget, some knowledgeable people would surely recommend something good for your buck. Also: I assume you have monitor ready, what's the resolution and refresh rate you're planning on gaming?

You can amend orders after placing them with PCS, but I suspect cancelling and resubmitting will be the better play here.

This looks like a PC Specialist configuration. As well as asking here, get advice on those forums too as they know the PCS configurators well.

In general:

• Case seems to be cheap garbage, probably poor for airflow and upgrade options. Fractal Focus G if they still do it is a much better bet and still quite cheap
• 3000 / 3200MHz RAM (except they don't offer it in that configurator except in 32gb quantity, which is a waste of cash for you)
• That B450 mobo may not be worth it over the other one they do
• 550W PSU gives more upgrade options / freedom in the future.
• 5500 XT 8gb is terrible value - the 1660 is more powerful and cheaper
• Even the GTX 1650 Super is as good but way, way cheaper - PCS's AMD GPU pricing is often hit and miss - this one's a major miss.
• You could stick with the stock CPU cooler, it's fine.
• The PCS SSD may be trash-tier. At least with the Intel 660p, you know what you're getting...

With those tweaks you can can get a similarly priced system with the better R5 3600

You'd need to cancel the order and resubmit using the other configurator that has the R5 3600, but I'd advise you to do so. I suspect those on the PCS forum would do the same.

Just to edit, I worded it wrong. This is the quote I have been given for my order. I haven't actually placed it as yet.

I have a budget of £1000 and I'm hoping to be able to play the latest total war games, stellaris, battlefleet gothic. Mostly strategy games. For shooters I prefer console, just personal preference.
