Not even sure if this was the Forum part I got invited to so apologies if it is in the wrong place (In advance, thank you admin for moving it to the right place ......LMAO)

Musescore is famous for replies like "Have you read the manual?", it is in the manual" and it is not available on this version". These are the general responses you get from most things you ask on Musescore forum. That or you do not get a reply...period.

So, I posted the following in musescore forums today because it is an issue I do not understand. Obviously, I am doing something wrong, but I need to fix it......somehow.

I have seen it happen two different ways so will explain both. Please immolate and advise.

Opening a Saved Score
Imagine the following. Ending on a half note bassline say C in a measure and then an octave change to C again with a half note as start of the next measure. To smooth the transition, I Glissando the two notes. Some of the notes are audible but most are not. You hear the smooth transition with other instruments added. Now save the file and reopen it. Musescore takes your Glissando and shows them as notes now and not as a Glissando/slide anymore. Imagine what it is doing to your score layout of you do an octave change.

Adding an Instrument
Again, imagine the following. I create a Violin Instrument and decide to lean more towards fiddle (triads). I now create the part I feel is right but use several Flats and Sharps to get what I want. To give immersion and lift the audio, I create another Violin, use a right hand 8 (or 15 or just same) Clef and copy and paste my violin over to there. Before even considering raising the notes to where I want them to play 8 Octaves higher, musescore change my input notes. I have a C with a # and musescore would change that to a c #. It moves from my C line to the C# line resulting in terrible sounds especially when using traid's and chords when combined with other instruments. By itself it sounds ok......ish

I read everything I could about this but cannot find a reference to it anywhere. If anyone can tell me how I can fix this, please. It is driving me up the walls. I am at a point when I (A) do not want to save my scores since the glissandos and slides become a mess and (B) recreating each instrument just seem easier than to sit and figure out what notes got changed during the copy process.

Since There is no space for media on Music score (Only Notation forum I have seen that do not have their own media section), or it is very well hidden, I added images of the problem I am having here in PCGamer. I know it is "gamer" but there are hidden composers and artists amongst us.

The little boxes are link activated. Cannot get it to display straight into the thread. If anyone can explain to me where I am doing what wrong and how to rectify this.

I don't know what you were trying to achieve

Not sure if this will help you

i am not a hidden composer, but I do understand forum software a little bit.

We are in two different worlds here. I can struggle with Composing day in and day out but 15 minutes struggling to get something on a forum is pretty much where I end things. Forums just have this way to confuse the living @$#%$#%$# out of me. Will try the image thing but have not found the BB thingy yet. Once I get to that part, I will try the next step. LMAO

Edit: Make you a deal. I will teach you Composing then you teach me how to work all the different types of the forums ........ LMAO, I have come a long way at least (Given the few weeks I have been here). Learned more about forums here than any other forum

I used to have to know these things, now I am just a user like yourself :)

I know this forum software only as the 3 forums I used the most in the last 6 years use it.
Saw your name on other forums yes (Take it I may not name them). To me a forum is where you ask help or talk about things. I am used to Dropbox if I want to share anything. Anything outside typing and sharing a Dropbox link I am still learning. Trust me many have tried to help, think my brain is just not wired for it....... but getting there slowly but surely.

I mainly use forums to ask questions as well. Some I get stuck on helping as well. If the people are nice and I think I can help, I will. Answering other peoples questions is a painless way to learn what not to do... and sometimes what you should do.
It is a nice distraction from things I should be doing... like homework..

I been writing instructions for other people for years. Long before I came here.

Can relate to that. Some forums are very toxic. I been on a few of them and my "do not understand forums" situation usually do not go down well.

BUT

Let's not give up on me yet. Maybe before I hit 60, I will understand forums. LMAO

Not knowing your age, I have to assume you have a better chance than I do of learning that music stuff before I turn 60, since that is just over 2 months away. Oh crap, its sneaking up on me...
LMAO, I turned the big 50 in January. So, taking my youngness into consideration, as well as I have a brain already full of odds and ends, I might not get to know it before I hit the 60.

My dad used to tell me this joke about the age thing. Two elderly sitting on a park bench and the one asks "so how are you doing now that you turned 60". Other replies "Very well thank you and yourself?". First one says "I feel as young as a baby now a days. No teeth, No hair and think I just #$% myself"

I don't know what is going on here, but I don't hear any music.

Colif is a great guy. Used to run this place until he had a Zed moment. I'd give you my opinion on that in a PM except that we can't do that anymore thanks to some island tribe somewhere that's similar to Jamaica, only twice as miserable. (not Japan. I'[l probably get reported again for being mean to Japan by saying that FromSoft and some others don't do proper mouse/keyboard support)

Is it an actual sound file or is it being hosted somewhere? Or neither?
Nah, this one was merely me cursing Muse Score. I have one in progress (The one from the piece of paper and usb stick) Once I have a working Notation program that does what I tell it to do then I will be back on track. Dorico is installing. Getting an older version since my PC is a bit on the low spec side for the newer versions

Edit: Maybe I should stop spending money on software and start investing in hardware. Could have bought 3 gaming computers with the money on my last spending spree and now on the new notation software.......... But the wife will catch on. She will know it is just an excuse to play new games. LMAO

Colif tried to help. He made a very good attempt at it. Me on the other hand failed miserably. Just like I am now busy failing with the Dorico installation. If I ever return in human form again hopefully, I will know more about forums, computers and software. To me they are mostly black magic. Most things in my life is actually black magic. All of it works on smoke and when the smoke comes out, it stops working. You can test it, see if you computer is still working after the smoke comes out..........But now it seems like I will only be testing Sibelius. Just because my brain capacity do not understand all the things they are asking me to do. Can they just not make it like a game? hit setup, go have a coffee, come back and play? Why so complicated.......

Yeah, I don't think there's any way to post musical scores here. That would take some specialized software.

Errrrr, but.... started with a violin and raised EIGHT octaves!?

If the Muses are getting annoying, you can always go listen to some Throwing Muses to get some revenge.

Nope not raise 8 octaves. 1 octave 8 notes. A-A (8). Image makes more sense, but that is still a mystery to me on how to get it on here. It's under my media here. LMAO maybe some good Samaritan can help me out. LMAO

Good news though, after reinstalling Dorico about 6/7 times trying to figure out why I have no sound, and following their instructions to the tee, I got it working. Fault was not on my side; problem was an outdate VST that did not work with the version I got. Must add......it was the one they supplied with the software, so it got sorted after I figured out it needs to be updated. Did a library update and a VST upgrade and it started playing music to me. That means I can run all three programs together tomorrow and test them. Maybe I will have something on SoundCloud by tomorrow night just to make Zed's day. LMAO It is now almost 4am so I think I am going to get a bit of sleep. Will fight the good battle with music again tomorrow.

New day different ^%#$% and giggles............ is the moto......I think (Should maybe make that my signature.)

They asked me to put an "avatar" in my profile when I came here and so I did.....AVATAR!!!!! , everyone else did pictures (Weird?). Doubt the signature would even be read since they cannot even follow instructions on AVATAR........LMAO

just as well I don't believe either of those. Although if you look at all the stickies you could be mistaken to believe otherwise.
lucky my Zed moment wasn't here...
Almost too scared to ask about the Zed Moment. Pretty much boils down to if there is any bad blood afterwards. I am sure I have ruffled many feathers on various forums but in the end, it was merely a difference of opinion.

Thank goodness we are not all the same. Imagine how boring the world would be. No will be able to say anything since the other has already done it or busy doing it or going to do it ..........

Here, I know I have stepped on some toes a few places here, but the "vibe" of the forum is just much more relaxed and most happened out of ignorance. (Ignorance is bliss kind of thing). It is also one of the few forums I have found that even though it is designed for a specific topic, we are able to broaden it and learn from different viewpoints on various topics with it usually ending up in some form of chit-chat deviating from the original post. That is what makes it a great platform and the reason why I am still boring you guys with all my things.

With all that said, to have a good foundation on something like this (forum) takes a lot of work and input. So, from my side, Colif, you laid down a good foundation for others to build on. Well done.

Anyway, I overslept, so need to catch up on some work, have a class this afternoon, and have 2 notation programs to test. My opinion might be biased but think (deep down) I have already decided which one.

That is probably for the best. I don't want any attention :)

It would be very corporate.

Too much choice isn't that great either

That is probably due to so few users here. Forums with lots of users tend to try to keep threads on topic as it makes it easier for others to track the progress, if they aren't here everyday. With less users here, they only really need a few moderators, and the less you have of them, the less they want to control what people think... that and they mostly good people here.

Admin threads tend to stay on topic.

Would say few talking users. It is pretty much based on the "What do I get in return" mentality. If you do not say anything (or much) then no one will ask for your help, opinion or assistance on things I know about. Unfortunately, the biggest problem with humanity. What they do not realise is assistance is a two-way street and most of them wonder why they still go read the forum since it is now just a "pass the time" thing for them. 5 Minutes reading vs, days of talking, you can give me the days part anytime. I see my students, clients and wife pretty much everyday. Different mindsets and opinions interest me.

Admin threads tend to stay on topic.
I usually do not reply to those since I have the "knack" to turn a conversation into anything......"roughing the feathers" might make sense now. LMAO
