Question Is there a trick to get cfs3 to open/run when compatibility fails?

I downloaded the two disks but the game didn't open. After setting compatibility to win.xp , service pk. 3 , and clicking run as admin.,on my win. 11 pc, the game doesn't run. Is there something else I can tey?

Do you mean this game?

if so, this might help

video should help. See description for files.

reason it doesn't work without patch is due to the DRM used, the server no longer exists so game can't contact it.

Thanks. Saw this . Still no joy. 'Will look at a .zip file cfs3nocd. A user said that works around a Microsoft cd check, maybe.(?)Mike

Try installing DirectX 9 and any missing .NET Framework or Visual C++ Redistributables. If it’s an older game, you might need a No-CD patch or to run it in a virtual machine with Windows XP. Also, check if there’s a fan-made patch or community fix—some older games need extra tweaks to work on Windows 11.

I downloaded a nocd patch from flyaway site. The read instructions were to drop it into the cfs3 program and click on thr rewrite and go flying, but all I saw was" insert a writable disk".

it doesn't make sense that a no cd program would burn a cd. Unless you are meant to install that version once you have cd... it sure sounds like a round about way.

Put the .EXE file in your CFS root directory (where Combatfs.exe resides) and
run it. Then it will "patch" your Combatfs.exe file so you no
longer need the CD to run the game.

sounds like you did it, could try again.

Sounds like the nocd patch didn’t apply correctly. Make sure you’re replacing the original .exe file in the game folder with the patched one. Also, check if it’s the right version for your game. If it still asks for a disc, the patch might be faulty or incomplete.

Could be resolution related as well. Found that I need PhysX and PhysX legacy as well as borderless windows to run the older games in windows 11. Once installed and running I switch them over to Vulkan if possible. Compatibility is usually just "Run as Admin" No further compatibility settings that I use.

Edit: For patches have a look at the original Patches and Scrolls website. The DRM should be there. I use them mostly for the older games. As far as I know I am not allowed to give the website (Outside advertising) but if you google patches and scrolls you should get it. Ends with DE.
