Question In what game did you have your first romance with a companion or npc?

This question just occurred to me as I was looking through the Steam forum for CP2077, and it was just rife with people whining and complaining about who they could or couldn't have sex with (some Steam forums are such a mess). So I started reminiscing about the various relationships in past RPGs.

Going back; way, way back, the first time I remembered having a relationship was in Ultima 7 Part 2: Serpent Isle. There was a female mage in Moonglow that I had been flirting with the entire game, and near the end, there was a short little sequence where the Avatar got naked and jumped into bed with the female mage. No prolonged scene, or fade to black, but it is the first instance of a "romantic" encounter in an rpg.

What was your first?

Sheesh, maybe back in Baldur's Gate? The only memorable romance in all these years has been with Bull in Dragon Age 3, and that's only because the scum bag turned on me! ME!! I killed him soon after but the game credits still mocked me in the end.

Oh, and in The Witcher 1 which was memorable because I picked the doctor gal instead of Triss. Then the game ret-conned me and turned it into Triss in Witcher 2. Then let me go back to her in a Witcher 3 DLC.

I remember chasing after Jahiera in BG2, and it wasn't easy, as you had to answer in specific ways in various conversations over the course of the entire game (and it's a long game). Make one wrong choice, and no dice, and you never really sure until the end, or near the end, of the journey. DAO I always seem to end up with Cassandra.

Sounds like Final Fantasy 7. The main romance is pre-determined but there's a "date" about a quarter of the way through the game. You'll probably have it with Aries but, if you show some fairly heavy favoritism, you can have the date with Tifa. You can have the "date" with two other characters, too, though you have to play it JUST right to get either of them - and they are rather awkward dates. No idea how players even found those easter eggs!

The really first one? Probably Miria from Fallout 2. That was quick! A single conversation and marriage is ready. ;) Second one was Anna from Planescape Torment, if I recall correctly. But first romance that really deserves its name, was Jaheira from Baldur's Gate 2. It was a lot more developed and complex than any of the romances in previous games. And you could easily screw it up by selecting the wrong answer. This romance was also known as being very buggy. It never received a proper patch from the developers.

Ah, I loved FO2, probably the best of all FO games, way ahead of it's time. Would love to see that remastered. It's been so long since I played that I can't recall Mira, but I remember having slept with some guy's wife ( I think he was a crime boss) as a way to get info on some quest. I also wandered into a building where some guys were shooting a porn film, and was offered a job as a fluffer, which I did not accept by the way.

The BG2 Jaheira romance was complicated, for the bugs you mentioned, as well as lasting the whole game, with very little indication how you were doing. I know if she ever died during combat, and then healed, you had to ask her to join the party again, and that would break the quest.

I'm pretty sure there was a romance option for Aerie, but I never pursued it. She can actually get pregnant and give you a baby to carry in your backpack. Totally bizzare, but that's what's so great about BG2, so many things can happen, but you might never experience.

There was also a romance with Viconia in BG2. The best from all three. If done properly, it could lead to alignment shift for this character. BG2 was probably the first RPG which introduced more complex romances. It was followed by many other games.

Showing my age a little, but Lara Craft when the first Tomb Raider came out was pretty alluring. I spent many many hours on it with my trusty Playstation 1. And not just for the traps and gameplay. ;)

The first NPC I remember properly romancing is Bastila from Knights of the Old Republic. I never managed to impress anyone in Baldur's Gate 2.

I guess there was Keri Lee in Fallout before that? She helps run the Crimson Caravan company and if you've got the right stats there's a brief "fade to black" moment with her.

The first one I remember was in Baldur's Gate II. My player character ended up having a romance with Aerie.

I'm not sure if the mercenaries in Jagged Alliance 2 could have romances, or if I ever had to deal with them. That would have been the other earliest memory.

My first PC romance was probably SimGirl on some flash game website. Not sure if it was Newgrounds or some other free flash game website. I wasn't aware romance was a thing at a time and treated everything as a fetch quest back then.

In it, I remember picking between Buff, Intelligent, Charm, or Average.

I played some beta version of it because I remember only one girl was available, the MC had zero image, and selling drugs either got you in jail or a lot of money.

Do FMV crushes count? Kari Wuhrer was on a throwaway syfy show 'Sliders' around 25 years ago, and had the loveliest smile.

Lo and behold, she became commando Tanya in Red Alert 2—one of her catch phrases was 'licked and loaded'. Wasn't it?

I used to imagine us having a nice time together discussing the original C&C, after which she'd say in a deep gruff voice 'That was left-handed' ;)

I'm going to need a serious apology here, How dare you call one of the bestsci-fi shows ever made a throwaway!
Gulp.

Perhaps we can reach a compromise—how about best throwaway?

earth 62.. and you know what they do with humans there
I did have a peek, not pretty. So glad I'm part of the next—and final—evolution, Homo Sappy Ends.

Ah man, that is actually a great question. To be honest, I cannot remember when and what game it was when I have firstly had such an "experience". Sure thing I remember those "sex scenes" from the Grand theft auto games, however I would not even consider them. I guess, the Fallout 2 might actually be the first game when I have had a similar experience. But the game with the best possible romance with a npc has to be The witcher. Sometimes those dialogues are pretty similar to the ones that I am having with my girlfriend :DD. Our sex life is pretty similar to what you might see in sims actually :DD. Sometimes I am just too tired, so she has to do it all by herself with the toys that I got for her. We are actually the most loyal customers of a certain online sex shop. Right now, I want to get her this https://lovermart.com/product/jason-luv-10-inches-ultraskyn-****-brown-dildo/ dildo, she actually asked me to get it for her as a birthday present.

I can think of tons from relatively early adventure games, but since this is the RPG section I assume we're to pick solely from them. In which case it was almost definitely one of the first two Fallout games, as those were the first RPGs I played in which I had any memorable interaction with NPC's. Prior to that it was just random mooks saying things like "Thank you for returning [The Tome of Purity], Krud! You've met the requirements to join [The Faction of Light] and buy things from our armory." Or whatever.
