Is this PC ok for Oculus quest gaming?
Hi, I am not a gamer myself but my son is and has just purchased
HP OMEN 25L Gaming PC - Intel® Core™ i5, RTX 2060, 1 TB HDD & 256 GB SSD
from Pc world. He initially bought an AMD PC specialist desktop but had to return it due to a fault. He hopes to use his Oculus Quest with the new machine and I hoped someone could assure me this is possible on the replacement PC. I was assured by PC world this was an ideal replacement but i am reluctant to give it over to my son ( who is BTW asperger's) only to find I was misled.

If it's this one for ~£1000 then be aware there are alternatives for a similar price that have better specs e.g.

It has a significantly more powerful graphics card, while being £100 less.

And that was just the first other etailer I went to.

Either would work according to the specs Oculus publish

But you might want to shop around before buying

I am aware of the overpriced nature of the intel and Nvidia options, I just want to be assured at this point it will do what it needs to. I am desperate to find a trusted builder and supplier. I had endless problems with the PC specialist AMD unit he originally purchased and although i was basically aware i would be getting less for my money with intel and nvidia, I just wanted him to have a functioning unit to use. (his birthday was 3 weeks ago now.) Can you please advise if this unit will be ok or if any upgrades will be required to play the likes of half life alex and his team games in VR on his oculus quest.

2 things:

1) It's not "AMD = budget" "Intel/Nvidia = Expensive / overpriced". It's just that that particular HP model on that particular store is expensive, relative to what else you can buy.

For instance there's a spec similar to the HP but with an RTX 2070 instead of an RTX 2060 for the same price:

2) AMD, Intel, Nvidia, it all makes little to no difference. You got a faulty unit, which happens just by bad luck. Any consumer electronics you buy can be faulty at point of sale, or develop a fault shortly after. It just happens and you got unlucky sadly.

The RTX 2060 would be below optimal for Half Life Alyx, and VR gaming in general, especially with an eye to future titles. Something beefier would make a lot of sense, especially if you can get it for basically the same price.

It might be okay, but I wouldn't but it.
