Game with the best music (not theme song)

We already have a thread about your favorite theme song, and also one about how important is music. But I want to have a discussion on what game do you think has the best music within the game?

I think one of my favorites would have to be Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I say that because music is such an integral part of the game. Different parts of the game have different iconic songs, and you actually have to learn the songs on your ocarina for use later.

Another game with really great music is Rayman Legends. There is such a wide variety of music in that game, and it's so fitting for the variety of level designs. But most of all, you have speed run levels that actually play off of the music. The weird Black Betty level is great.

Most games just use ambient music, but I think those two take their music much farther than just ambience. What are your favorite games from the perspective of the music within them?

The Civ games all have great music, typically orchestral, which suits the epic scope of the games. Civ4's would be my pick, probably because I've heard it a lot more than the others. But you can't go wrong with a Civ soundtrack.

Next would be the C&C games scored by Frank Klepacki, which fit in so well with the gameplay. I suppose to pick one, it would be the original Red Alert, filled with rousing militaristic music and of course the iconic Hell March theme. If you fancy a full C&C live concert with Frank Klepacki & The Tiberian Sons, there you go! Track list in one of the top comments.

Far Cry New Dawn has the best FC music—but I haven't heard FC6. New Dawn isn't a constant soundtrack, but rather songs playing on radios you encounter in buildings and vehicles—lots of instantly recognizable older songs.

This is a copy pasta from my post in another soundtrack thread:

My list of favorite game soundtracks:
  • Into the Breach
  • Hotline Miami 1 & 2
  • Ruiner
  • Surviving Mars (Quantum Sonics station)
  • Cities: Skylines (Sythetic Dawn Station / Rail Hawk Radio)
  • Divinity: Original Sin 2
  • Offworld Trading Company (Composed by Grammy Award winner Christopher Tin)
  • Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales (Claws and Scales just hits different)
  • DOOM 2016
  • Tropico 6
Other games have good tracks but these are the ones I actually listen to outside of playing - and in the game they're perfect.

I guess if i had to pick a type, i like Dooms metal soundtracks and other metal type soundtracks that go with games like Killing Floor 2 and Prodeus. Usually frantic FPS shooters. Theres a bunch im missing. And, like the other thread, halo's opening and soundtrack are nice. I also like Destiny 2's.

But generally, even in the above mentioned games, i play games without its music or at very low levels. Outside of tweaking settings, one of the first things i do is lower the music volume by ~75 percent. Its not that i dont like games musics, i just rather here the sounds and voices more than the music. Also, the music in games when it comes to fighting bosses and such get kind of annoying to me and adds stress. If i can barely hear it, it doesnt sound like im in this life or death situation and kinda helps me focus better.

Vampire: The Masquerade: Bloodlines. The music in the different clubs was great!

Skyrim's ambient music was very well done! The tavern songs, not so much. (Mostly because of the awkward silences between each line. I got a mod to help that, but it sure didn't fix it.)

City of Heroes had some good ones:

Bards Tale 4, of course.

And practically any Star Wars game.

@WoodenSaucer No problem at all. All of those threads are also quite old, so making another thread is a nice way to avoid necroing posts, as long as the OP of those threads doesn't do it himself. Not to mention that people's favorite tracks might change in a year or two with new games releasing or perhaps some old games did not come up before.

One from a fairly new game, called Hitman 3. Really cool mission and the club scene music atmosphere is something I think IO Interactive is really good at making ( Honorable mention to the Club music in Hitman 3 Contract)

Another piece that I really enjoyed was from a club in Cyberpunk 2077 playing metal music. Far as I know there was no mission at that club, so you kind of just stumble into that one, which makes it even cooler.

Finally, you can't really go wrong with some Black Betty @WoodenSaucer. Here is my favorite version with that soundtrack, which I used to play on my Logitech Z5500 *tips hat to @Colif*

Sorry, guys. I didn't see the soundtrack threads, and I didn't think to search for the word "soundtrack." If the mods want to merge this thread with one of those, that's fine with me.
My post was just about me not wanting to post the same link into another thread on a similar topic in same day. I wasn't commenting on the status of your topic at all.

Getting inspired to ask another question based on one you read is fine :)

I didn't mean to make it look any other way, sorry if I did.

Also, we generally only merge topics if started by the same person, not 2 similar ones started by different people as that is unfair to both, it started as 2 different questions and it should stay that way.
