Forza Horizon 5 thread...

(Mods, I don't think this qualifies as a simulation, but if you want all your racing game threads there, I get it)

Just a warning for those looking to buy. It may be the greatest singleplayer racing game I've ever played, but co-op is completely broken and not likely to get much better. They seem to have copied directly from 4 for their multiplayer, but 4 never worked properly either, and they never changed/fixed it the entire time. So if your primary interest is to hop in with friends and play together, you are going to be incredibly frustrated. As far as I can tell, racing against randoms works mostly okay. It's forming "convoys" with your friends that is, and likely will forever be, broken.

I've complained off and on to their support for years, but it doesn't do any good. They simply don't care. If you read the Steam reviews, you'll see people saying things like "hold off for a month or so until they fix co-op", but that's a pipe dream. It may get fractionally better than what it is right now, but the underlying problem will not get fixed.

Performance: There are a lot of crashing bugs going on right now too, but the game runs remarkably well otherwise (except for the heart attack, how was your day?). It does 95 FPS on my laptop at 1080p on Ultra, and it almost never varies. It doesn't drop 10 FPS then gain 15, then drop 5, etc. It plants itself at 95 and stays that way, maybe give or take 1 fps, the entire time I play it. Too bad about the other bugs and the co-op. Unlike the co-op problem, the occasional crashing will go away soon enough.

If you are just looking for a singleplayer game that is good with a gamepad, though, I highly recommend this. Their vision of Mexico is stunning (I've never been to Mexico, so I don't know how accurate it is, but it's beautiful).

+ I get a steady 120fps on ultra 1440P with RTX 3070, Ryzen 7 5800X.
+ It looks very nice and the driving feels smooth for the most part. Some of the cars got some insane handling on them, especially the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento FE. It is not the fastest car out there, but it can cut corners like no other car. Also, a nice car to use for AFK races if you want to rank up some spins/credits fast.
+ Music is ok, but NOT included would be that annoying intro song that got showed down your throat with the never-ending tales of disconnections.
+ Flipping is still a thing and the only downside right now is that there are soooooooooo many people doing the same (included bots) that you have to have some good luck and VERY fast buyouts to be able to get a nice steal from the more popular cars.

- Disappearing cars they borrowed from CP2077.
- All the bloody dialogue voices.
- Crashes/disconnections.
- Spin. Sure, I like to spin to win some cool cars and outfits to flex, but let's be serious it's one of the most cancerous things ever to see in a video game. Literarily blows so much wind up the frontal lobes that you'll face probably melt from all the excitements after a while.

Love those wheel spins. I seriously hope they never get rid of them. I love some completely free loot boxes. Vermintide 2 did it well, too. Was very exciting to finish your mission and open them up.

One thing I wish had gone completely away was "wall riding". It's gone in competitive, but still there in everything else. Just get rid of it completely. It shouldn't be faster to ram into a wall than it is to hit the brakes and turn.

@ZedClampet It is fun, I definitely agree. It's just that it promotes gambling in the sense that you have casino sounds with the higher sounds when you hit something really good. It promotes spinning and winning and finding ways to win more, which also includes paying real money for getting FH points that you can use for getting more wheelspins. Yes, the majority will not use it, for those with a gambling problem, there is a chance not only for them to use real money, but also jump on other sites when the quick fix is over. The biggest problem as I see it is that this is PEGI 3, while they are deliberately introducing gambling mechanics to kids. That also shows the big flaws with the whole PEGI system and that perhaps the management board and committee are sleeping on their job. This is not a shocker though, FIFA is perhaps the best example of a PEGI 3 game that makes mothers and fathers around the world sleep with their wallets, afraid of their own children emptying the family fortune for a chance of getting that sweet, sweeeet walkout.
