There are a number of things that have me concerned about the future of this forum. If you wake up one day and Future has shut this forum down and not replaced it with anything, give me a moment and I will create a replacement site at my username (dot) com.

I want to emphasize, if any admin are reading this, that there is no alternate site. I'm not trying to lure anyone anywhere. I simply want to let people know that I will make a place where we can regroup if corporate decisions lead us to suddenly having no forum. There is no way of notifying members of this after the fact, as this sort of post isn't allowed at the main site.

I may reserve a better name, but using my username as an emergency is probably the easiest thing for everyone to remember. I have to make sure that, against all odds, it hasn't been bought by someone else.

Funny and a bit apropos. Way back when I was a fixture of the Planet Half-Life forums. Eventually they migrated over from a forum technology, which I think was called Lithtech. A bunch of the regulars hated the style (which was basically this, as all forums have become), so one of the regulars created their own site and mocked-up a forum based on that same Lithtech and it's a place we all haunted for a decade or more.

I had a friend banned for life from a sports forum for making an alternate forum, which is why I tried to emphasize that this was an "only in an emergency" type situation.

I've been on a forum where a couple of members decided to make their own because they didn't agree with certain moderator decisions. In my opinion those moderators were some of the best I've ever seen, so it was really just a bunch of troublemakers leaving. I think most of them ended up returning or staying active on the main forum anyway.

i have been on a forum where half the mods left and made their own website/Playstation Clan... after a few years they all came back, power struggles can do that to people. You can never tell how someone will react if given power.

I won't predict the future of Future... I mean, they have plenty of websites. Here isn't the only game website even. I let you find the others... I randomly find them and ID them from website appearance.

I used to be an active member of pc advisor forum and its ok for me to tell this story cos the forum is no longer in use. To say that the forum editor was a control freak is a big understatement , i could imagine that if he was a school teacher he would have put dozens of children in detention every day.

If he was going away on holiday or on a business trip he would say on main page ..... DONT step out of line while i am absent because i am taking my laptop with me to keep an eye on you all. If you sent a private email to him to complain about something or somebody he would not send you a private reply he would report your comments on the reported posting for everyone to read.

Somebody decided to troll me and put tons of personal stuff on a thread about me i have no idea how he got hold of everything , in fact it was a bit scary , i reported it and he posted the reply on the thread , he basically said if you cant stand the heat get out of the kitchen , he refused to remove what the troller had posted. Against my better judgement i gave him some verbals .... it got the result i wanted ... he removed everything i had ever done on the site so the trollers stuff vanished as well but also banned me.

I wanted to get back into the site so i opened a new account with gmail address instead of my usual isp and i used a different name and password. BEFORE i even posted anything he sent me an email and said i know who you are , your banned again and if you try to join a 3rd time i will report you to your isp and police.

He was clearly awful to deal with. I was just agreeing that his threat was over-the-top, so over-the-top that it was humorous. Threatening to notify the police because you changed your username and tried to sign up? I'd love to see the look on the policeman's face when the editor was explaining this "crime".

I get the concern tbh, forums disappearing overnight isn’t that rare anymore. Kinda reassuring someone’s willing to spin something up if needed, even if it’s just a backup plan.
