Tested the PC demo of Doom: The Dark Ages—a prequel blending glory kills, shield parries, and melee-centric action. Battled armored foes, robotic dragons, and golden cyber-demons (avoid those!). Use flail combos to execute signature finishers, smash portals to halt hellish invasions, and unlock weapon upgrades like a triple-shot shotgun.

New Morale system rewards aggression—deal damage to heal! Solve shield-based puzzles, teleport with relic tech, and counter charged attacks with precise parries. Secret shrines enhance weapons, including a Reaver Chain Shot that melts armor.

Combat is slower-paced but tactical: dodge AoE bursts, stagger enemies, and exploit weak points. Atmosphere mixes sci-fi fantasy—think glowing shrines, ancient mechs, and intense boss clashes.

Is the combat too parry heavy, or does it have an adequate variety?

I think this is just a troll post, OP did not play a demo of doom.

From the videos ive seen of combat, its parry-heavy vs certain monsters because they die quicker when you hit them after parry (instead of just shooting everything at it) but there is still a lot of fast-paced moving, just more in an open world than a mostly-linear path like doom has been.
