Well, in sacred 2, entire classes could only choose certain routes, some couldn't be evil and some couldn't be good. Whether that actually changed how I played them? Not really.
What the choices did was change what quests you might see in game, and the route you took through a certain zone. I think the bosses you met were also different. It was just a choice. An alternate route through game
I don't play story heavy rpg, so it could be my actions in game are seen as one way or other
