Do you ever buy DLC just to support a developer? (here's what happens when a good dev...)

I do and I just did. Stunlock Studios, the developer behind V-Rising, released a $20 cosmetic DLC. It has a lot of cosmetics in it, much more than you usually get, and usually these are met with derision by players even if they begrudgingly buy them. This pack, on the other hand, reached #2 on Steam's Global Top Sellers and has a 92% positive rating.

Dear greedy devs who complain about toxic gamers all the time, have you ever received reviews like these for you cosmetics?

Bought this sight unseen to support the devs who created a game that brings such joy to me and my friends and family. Totally worth it!

This DLC could have been a fart in a box and I still would have bought it to support this amazing game and it's developers. To my surprise it wasn't a fart in a box but really cool cosmetics.

Support <3

20$ for a ton of skins & cosmetics, for a developer that keeps on giving? Don`t mind if i do.
Take my thumbs up and my bucks!

Supporting these awesome devs.

V Rising is one of very little games I choose to support via paying for additional cosmetic DLC, but yeah - they do deserve it. Slay.

The community asks, the developers provide, the community supports, happy to support them over the years buying every DLC so that they can keep developing this wonderful game with QoL and content. Its not everyday that games release content, QoL and expansions for free, and the DLCs all have insane amounts of work and detail behind them.
Keep it up Stunlock Studios! 🦇

Do you have any developers you feel strongly about supporting?

Usually not. Maybe it’s an entitled way to think about supporting devs, but I’d rather get something I actually want out of it. I don’t care too much about skins or cosmetics, so I don’t spend money on them typically. However, I have bought ever single Vampire Survivors DLC the day they come out because they’re no more than a couple bucks each. I feel that is a way to support them since the base game is only $5.

Ive never bought any cosmetics just because I dont care about them. If I like a smaller budget game a lot and got it on sale or it was cheap I sometimes then buy DLCs to throw some more money their way, even if I dont intend to play it.

I'm not going to buy DLC for AAA games out of the goodness of my heart. I'd rather shareholders got as little of my money as possible.

The closest I can think of me buying any cosmetics might be when I chose a mount in Age of Conan and the choice was what it looked like. But does a skin on a mount count? As really I was buying the mount as transport, being able to pick its appearance was just extra and not reason I bought it - unlike wow where people collect mounts and pets now... that game changed so much in 20 years.

I only buy dlc if I want to use whatever it is. Not as a donation to a maker.
I may have bought a better version of Last Epoch that contains cosmetics available online, but I never actually played online to use them. That is closest I have come to buying DLC just to support a company.

I wouldn't do it for a AAA company as they don't need my charity.

I'm not rich enough to give money away just to support developers. If I ever do manage to get rich, I do have a list of artists whose work I've enjoyed for free for years who I'd throw some money to, which includes some game developers.

Not fully. I've bought some DLC that I can kinda use from devs I particularly like that I would have skipped from a typical development group, so it has been a weight, but I don't think I've ever flat out bought a DLC purely to give a developer money. If I wanted to do that, I would find a way to just send them money. Going the DLC route means Steam is going to get almost a third of the 'donation.' Besides, as much as I like a developer, they aren't a charity.
