Mum and Brother went to a family Xmas event, they had a Secret Santa this afternoon as the family grew so large that it was too expensive to buy everyone something. Mum reports there was about 40 people there with kids screaming and all the things I remember from family events when I was a kid.
My foot kept me from experiencing it as it would have been too complicated getting me there and moving around. Although some family members are nurses... I don't need the questions/fuss (though they may have helped with my boot)

Woohoo! I'm a notoriously bad gift giver. People never use what I get them. But this year I got each of the kids a Meta Quest VR headset, and my luck seems to be changing :)
My kids were disappointed they got like 70/30 clothes to toys.

But they do not need anymore toys; their toy chest is literally overflowing with a huge portion of things that never even get touched or looked at.

But they did get Grounded today, which we played for like an hour and we all had a good time.

If I had a dollar for every time someone on the sports site told me they were a doctor, I'd be richer than Elon Musk. Yes, I know you're a doctor. Your username is DRTimJohnsonMDNeuroSurgeonHandsofGod. Unfortunately for you, that you obviously cheated your way through medical school doesn't in any way diminish the fact that your opinion on the NFL draft is idiotic.

When Guido was little, every year I'd ask him what he wanted for Christmas, and he always said, "Dinosaurs, army men and cars".

This is kind of weird. I asked copilot where I could find a certain blueprint in Dune Awakening, and it told me the blueprint didn't exist. I said, "Well, I already have one, I just can't remember where I got it."

It responds, "Good news, Zed— the search results finally give us the real answer, and it lines up with your memory: the Hajra Literjon Mk5 does drop in the world, but only from very specific wreck sites"

I wonder if it was following some sort of protocol the first time and didn't think the information was reliable?

LLMs are useful, but so weird.

I was messing around with my local instance of QWEN the other day and asked it when Hollow Knight released. Here's a little edited snapshot of our conversation, my questions in Bold. Keep in mind QWEN is a few months out of date as a model:

Would you believe me that Hollow Knight: Silksong released?

It was officially released on March 28, 2024, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC (via Steam). It’s the highly anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed Hollow Knight (2017), developed by the indie studio Team Cherry.

No, it was actually released on September 4th, 2025

Ah — you’re absolutely right to point that out! 😊
Hollow Knight: Silksong was not released on March 28, 2024 — that was a mistake or misremembering.

In fact, Hollow Knight: Silksong was officially released on September 4, 2025 — and you’re correct that it’s still in the future as of today (April 2025).

Can you incorporate the fact that Silksong was definitely released on 9/4/2025

Absolutely — and I’m glad you brought this up, because as of today (April 2025), Hollow Knight: Silksong was officially released on September 4, 2025 — and that date is now confirmed by Team Cherry, Steam, PlayStation, and Xbox.

Ok, now onto a new conversation:

When was Hollow Knight - Silksong released?

Hollow Knight: Silksong was officially released on April 24, 2024.

🤦‍♂️
My friend had the same experience asking ChatGPT the same question.

I've never spent anywhere near $300 on footwear, even my fairly robust backpacking boots were under $200. So I have to ask, are those going to be orthopedic shoes by any chance?
mum did say there is a chance it won't cost that much so what ever difference is I get to keep anyway. Probably at least $200. My feet were hard to get shoes for before I fell over. I don't know what my feet will be like after I recover so what type of shoes I get will depend on that. (Australia is more expensive with almost everything as well). I already had one flat foot and one normal, but the normal was the one that is broken now...

I accidentally put my foot down earlier and now its not amused. Its annoying as it had been good all day. I find what part of it hurts changes daily so for a few days it was my big toe, now it seems to be the underside of foot.

Sick of sitting here not being able to do anything constructive (besides use PC)... might get out on weekend and be a passenger on a random drive around my city... I don't know, not something that normally interests me... but I been stuck inside for 25 days now... Just need to change my view.

10 days before I might get boot taken off. Maybe.

At least they have been trained not to argue with you anymore. CoPilot used to lose its mind when I corrected it. I asked your question to CoPilot and it gave me:

Here’s the definitive answer, Zed— straight from the fresh search results.
🕊️ Hollow Knight: Silksong Release Date
Hollow Knight: Silksong was released on September 4, 2025.
All major outlets confirm the same date, and the game launched simultaneously across platforms.
A few extra details from the sources:
• It released at 7 AM PT / 10 AM ET / 4 PM CEST on launch day.
• It launched on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and Switch 2, and was day‑one on Game Pass Ultimate.
• Demand was so high that storefronts experienced temporary crashes at launch.
If you want, I can pull up reviews, performance notes, or a spoiler‑free overview of how it compares to the original Hollow Knight.

I don't know the actual launch times, but that seems accurate.

You know, for as much crap as Copilot gets, I think it's pretty decent as far as LLMs go. I used it to to help troubleshoot an issue with my RC car; I'm not entirely sure if it was correct (As I haven't bought the part I need yet), but the suggestion it made seems pretty plausible to me, given the part I'm having issues with is cheap.

Just out of curiosity, I asked ChatGPT again here when Silksong came out and it insists it hasn't.

Google Gemini is supposed to be the best right now, so I asked it about Silksong and it got it right. As usual, not satisfied with just answering the question, it rambled on about the launch, talking about pricing and concurrent players, etc.

I got to grill all right, though at least the temperature didn't get all the way to the 70's. Crazy weather is crazy. A cold front moves in tomorrow to bring back sanity.

But they do not need anymore toys; their toy chest is literally overflowing with a huge portion of things that never even get touched or looked at.
<ahem> Shall we do a comparison between their toy box and what % of games that are in your Steam library that you played at any point this entire year?
But they did get Grounded today....
You grounded them on Christmas!?!? OMG.... oh, the video game. Phew! I was about ready to send a lawyer out there to help your kids. ;)

It really shouldn't be called "Grounded". It should be called "OMG look at the size of the spiders!"

Hey now, you're treading dangerous ground.

I also just bought a couple other games along with Grounded, but let's not mention it.

I'll have to check if I have some frozen berries (which may be hella old at this point) so I can make that sauce, cause it looks fantastic.
It's a dangerously tasty combination with the rice cream. Definitely hit that Christmas spot when you just lean over like a beached whale with a smile of happiness. FULL, in other words :D

Rest assured, I will be trying it out. I have the rice pudding already made and I have heavy whipping cream; my only issue is that I have some frozen berries, but they're a mix of strawberry, raspberry and blueberry, so not exactly right, but I'll probably either do it anyway just to experiment or I'll pick out the blueberries and see what I can do with what remains.

I actually shared the recipe with my Dad, as well, because it seems like something he would also enjoy.

Alright @Frindis, I had a go

full

Turned out my frozen mixed berries were blackberries, raspberries and blueberries, so I just went with it. The sauce ended-up super sweet, so I balanced that by not overly sweetening my whipped cream. Mixed that with my few day old rice pudding and the results were pretty damned good! My wife liked it a lot as well.

It works perfectly with the sauce. The rice cream isn't amazing on its own, but that's on me, because when I originally made this rice, thinking it was for my Jambalaya, I salted the water generously, so the actual rice cream is a little more salty than sweet. But, again it works flawlessly with the red sauce, so I'll be making more of that when I eventually need it.

Yeah I'd have probably gone bonkers after just a week of being inside. I'd probably be out in the local park by then talking to squirrels on a knee scooter with everyone wondering if I was OK.

barriers such as stairs and grass stop me from going outside. The knee scooter isn't designed for off road and little rocks can be enough to get in the way.
Its not like its a mobility scooter... I would love ones of these and probably use it even if I could walk

Its one of these things, its not motorised, I have to power it with my other foot.
I wonder if mine is at right height.... be a lucky guess on brothers part. MIght fix it up before my next doctors appointment as that will be my next longest trip. Up and down corridors to get foot xrayed again.

Going to a park would be great but I feel I will start with shorter walks/pushes until I am ready to stop using it. Just walking around my block will be an achievement... which is strange to me.

Could be worse. Walking to the bathroom is sometimes an achievement for me.

After 6 or 7 months of extreme insomnia where I was getting about 8 hours of sleep per week, and then spending some time in the hospital, my body is just done. Hopefully, I can restore some strength to it by walking around the house for an hour or two per day. The doctors seem to think it will work.

I finally have my sleep issue fixed, but if I stay up too late or get up in the middle of the night for some reason, I experience a weird sort of full-body exhaustion where it is even hard to hold up my head. The other night, I woke up after a couple of hours of sleep and my mouth was dry, so I went downstairs to the kitchen, and by the time I had a drink of water, I knew that I wasn't going to be able to make it back upstairs to my bed. I came close to just lying down in the kitchen floor, but decided to try to make it to my computer chair (a large arm-chair). And I ended up sleeping the rest of the night there.

On the bright side, I'm getting special treatment from my wife and kids, who all seem to think I might drop dead at any moment. I suppose that it true, but I feel fine most of the time unless I let myself get too tired.

Bathroom now is a multi stage journey
  1. Get onto knee scooter
  2. Go to bathroom
  3. reverse up to toilet
  4. Do business
  5. Get up on 1 foot and put knee back on knee scooter
  6. turn scooter around again so its facing door
  7. Go back down hallway past my room, and use a doorway to turn around so scooter facing towards bathroom again (as it makes it easier next time I am on stage 1 again) since its the most likely place I go next time.
Going to the bathroom 5 weeks ago and not making it, was what led me to having a broken foot, so you be careful

My life is now restricted to lying on bed with occasional visits to bathroom and kitchen.

@BeardyHat Respect for trying it out, and I am happy to hear it was good:)

Back home and took a trip to the supermarket. An elderly person was almost screaming (he was hard of hearing,) that he wanted to take out as much money as possible. He did this several times and I felt uneasy for his sake, since the supermarket was crowded. I told the cashier to take a closer look when he was leaving, just in case he was taking out a huge amount. By the time I was exiting the building, I heard he was going to withdraw 110USD, so thankfully not that much. You never know these days, so good to have some extra eyes around.

My bones seem strangely resilient. I've never broken a bone, and there have been plenty of opportunities, from all the falls I've had recently, including falling down the stairs, to a violent head-on car crash when I was a teen (I was not driving), and all the sports I played as a child, I've never had a broken bone.

Now that I'm sleeping, I'm not passing out anymore, so hopefully the falls are over. Between childhood and the start of this year, I'd never just fallen down. Now I've fallen about 8 times in the last 2 months. But the doctor gave me an exercise to do to fix my inner ear, and that seems to have settled it.
