Side note, i got my new shelf for my closet, which is adding another 8 cubic feet of space to my place and ill finally have the pile of boxes put away that have been taking up space where i will be doing my project. So hopefully next month ill be starting! I just need to grab a web cam, and get my new drives stuffed into my comp along with a win 11 upgrade. I grabbed 12 tb worth of space between ssd and hdd for my video archiving project, but that will be more than enough space for both projects.

I think ill just work on this stuff for a while maybe push that 3d printing idea down the road. So thanks for that info

Yeah, it's definitely requires some space to have this stuff, I'm pretty damned lucky in that regard!

You can pause printing on either style of printer, though I never have, to be honest. Closest I've gotten is when my FDM printer detected it was running low on filament, so it paused itself and waited until I loaded a new spool.

Also, one more con of FDM: Noisy.

I kind of forget about that. I have excellent hearing, but I'm really good at tuning out consistent noise, but I do know that kind of stuff (such as case fans for a lot of people) can drive people nuts.

Side note: I'm actually doing a test right now. My 9-hour print finished last night without too many issues, one item on the plate failed, but I'm noticing some stringing on the latest stuff I printed (basically looks like cobwebs on stuff) and after doing some calibration tests, I can't seem to get the printer to stop doing that. Kind of wondering if it's because of the filament I'm using, so I swapped to a different brand to see what happens...

I took a video and again, they weren't there! Finally, last night the Win11 widgets weren't loading, making the left side of my screen blank - and there were the ghostly rectangles!

It's old, that's for sure. I got it because it's a particularly good monitor to use with 3D-Vision and enjoyed using that with it for several years! It's an ASUS ROG PG278QR, which I guess is a TN panel.

I moved/deleted icons and the burn-in is fading already, so I don't think this is permanent damage. Maybe the monitor can go another 10+ years!

I actually just used ChatGPT this afternoon to answer a question I could not locate the answer to on Google. It was correct on the diameter of a hose I needed, but quite wrong on the length of the hose. Which has generally been my experience when asking it questions.

I had some success today. I managed to finish getting my intake manifold back together for my engine rebuild, which is a pretty major step; once I get this thing on, the entire engine will be fully assembled, sans the front accessories. Still lots more to do after that, but it's nice to see progress and feel like I'm moving forward.

I do need to go to Harbor Freight tomorrow and get some hose clamps for the fuel rail though and then figure out how to place the like four separate gasket pieces that need to go under it.

Sorry about the mess that is my bench/workspace. It's a theme for me, I suppose, given my painting bench generally looks similar.

I missed where you said you are redoing your cars motor. I was still under the impression it is just the suspension that is pulling to one side (The trip you had out with your mom a while back). In my defence I have been very busy for around the past month (possibly more) so apologies for missing it.

Not long then my life will be returning to normal. I mentioned to Zed a while ago that my 24/7 period of the year is upon me. But almost over and done. Then just a few Company X-mas functions and then I can rest till next year.

The AI thingy just struck me as "odd" or scary (Not sure about the spelling but meaning when something frightens you). So, they are pretty much saying that if I have 250 friends all posting the same thing is would become an AI search result. So, a company in need of "instant marketing" just need 250 employees to post in one day and it is AI set.

Makes me wonder how they will be fixing that loophole because it pretty much opens a huge propaganda market.

It's actually been constant this summer too. We've done several thousand miles and 3 road trips with it since May and it's just constantly needed little things and I'm just tired of working on it. Currently the charging system on that vehiclel needs to be fixed. But my wife told me I should just ignore it for now and finally work on my paperweight Jeep that's been sitting for 6-years, so I've made that my primary focus of my automotive work again.

Thankfully my third vehicle is a Honda and it rarely needs attention, so that's what we've been using a lot lately. But I must admit, I miss my van.

Fortunate mine is mostly papers. I still like doing things on paper before going digital. Mine is almost done. The I am pretty much quiet till March. I am going away on holiday from the 20 Dec to 10 Jan (My usual yearly off time) then catch up on the things I missed on the house till March. As far as I know most businesses are in peak season now. Over here anyway.

Doubt he will. I am testing the waters bit by bit. Did an Ai chat few days ago about various chord progressions (Was looking for a specific "type" of progression) and I did not exactly agree with it. Was almost as if it was only half the information and could not answer me when I started asking about Melodic harmonics on the progression it suggested.

In short I am not on the AI boat yet. Testing it with knowledge I have and pretty much it has failed on the replies every time.

I don't use AI at all. It's not accurate enough to trust anything it says.

The main problem for AI as I understand it is not someone making a bunch of garbled documents specifically to poison AI models, it's that AI is inevitably going to be training on AI generated data, which will introduce all kinds of hallucinations into the training data.

Past few days been struggling with my left ear. Ringing and pretty much do not hear much with it. Got round to the "Quack" this morning.

After the examination he gave me a prescription and I went to the pharmacy, collected the meds, got home and realised they gave me nasal meds and not ear meds. Got back into the car, and the pharmacists showed me that it is as per Doctor's prescription. I am 50 and my home GP is older than me so assumed he made a mistake so took the drive out to him again.

He gave me this explanation for those who did not know, "your ear is connected with a tube to your nose with a tube. Sinusitis can block this tube (in your nose) resulting in blocked ears". I personally did not know that. "Quack" suggested I try not to be a doctor going forward and use what I am given in future. LMAO

That would mean that the doctor isn't a quack but a doctor. My dad was a gynecologist and a surgeon but I had science for both my O and A levels, added Business Studies to my A levels outside of Pure Maths, Physics, Chemistry, Human Biology and Biology. He did want me to follow in his footsteps but I had other plans, wanting to be a Chemical Engineer but ended up being an Architect.

It's not a bad idea to check and doublecheck but it's best you ask the doctor what meds were given and to clarify why they were given, if he/she/they didn't explain it to begin with. One more question and maybe a few more minutes trying to clarify would've saved you the double round trips. I did that with my dad's prescriptions when he was undergoing chemotherapy, making sure I didn't have to go to the same place twice.

Glad you got that sorted out with the doctor and the pharmacist! Hope you have a speedy recovery.

Yeah they only make the components though, not frames. I love the new XTR stuff, especially the brakes. Even if I found the new gen XTR brakes on sale though, they use a specially formulated low viscosity brake fluid that is very expensive. I saw a video once of Chad Smith, drummer of Red Hot Chili Peppers, who loves and has always used Shimano XTR. He was out at a mountain bike park and some locals spotted him. They looked half or less his age, but he challenged them to a stunt competition. Right off the bat he landed a perfect back flip off one of the jumps. I think they were betting "pink slip" style, winner takes the other's bike. The kids were doing handlebar spins, kickouts, and knack knacks, but they couldn't argue his stunt was riskier. I think he let them keep their bikes in the end though, obviously he can afford any bike he wants. He just wanted to show them up. Wish I could find that video, but I'm having a hard time locating it. If I find it I'll post it.

Yes, they switched from standard brake fluid (Dot 5 or 6) to LV Mineral oil. The changed was based on several reasons but was mainly done because of braking pressure. With the original standard brake fluid systems, if you pulled the brakes just slightly too hard the wheel would lock. Only adjustment you had was on the rear of the calipers but that was mainly to adjust the travel distance.

With the LV mineral oil, the fluid compresses so you basically have something similar to an ABS system without any "fancy" accessories. Instead of the fluid going through a relief valve the fluid compresses and when the fluid is complete compressed the wheel will lock.

I recently (about 2 months ago) saw a Raleigh MTB with Hydraulic gear selectors. Was very interesting to see it in action and worked on a click system. The system I saw was on a 36 Speed system (4F x 9R).

Sound as if there are several cyclists here. Anyone of you ever heard of Optimist? I bought my Optimist (Also Semi-Carrera) through a friend around 2010. I kept it because was my first one. Once in a while I would take her out on the road, do her services etc., but cannot find any trace of even the company ever existed. Got invited out last night by my In-Laws while my wife stayed home with the kids; we hit some happy hours eventually ending with some dinner around 830, which is very late for me. Between that, overeating and having some beer, I slept terribly with acid reflux, so I'm feeling pretty damned lazy today. But I am at least going to force myself to do a little work on my engine today.

I also need to run out to the grocery store, just because we're totally out of vegetables and I need to get some candy, since Halloween is tomorrow and I have nothing to give to Trick or Treaters.

I also printed-up some new mechs for a potential Battletech campaign I may participate in. I'm hoping they all came out, since I manually supported them, as I wasn't happy with how the software was putting supports through the model, which are a pain to clean-up and usually just end-up creating a bunch of flaws in the model. But I'm a little scared (and lazy) to go look right now...

There's theoretically an end, but practically, probably not. My theoretical current end is having a proper city map I can put together with a bunch of 3d printed buildings and roads for Battletech. That said, by the time I'm there (if I get there), I'll have another idea and want to do a different type of map as well, so I'll then start printing something else.

Then there's the fact that I'll eventually get interested in my "primary" wargame again, Bolt Action which is WW2 and again I want to have a proper city map, because I've never gotten to play one, since it's a metric assload of work to get there between either buying expensive terrain or printing a whole bunch and painting it.

As for models themselves, there's really no end-point, honestly. With these current ones and this campaign, we're starting small, so eventually I'll work up to bigger mechs, which means more printing or buying. Plus then maybe during the course of gameplay I'll salvage other types and so on. Then there's plenty of other games that will also need printing or buying, so the list is pretty endless. At this point I'd say I have close to 1000-models/minis for various wargames, some fully painted, many not. But I'm also getting to the point where I'm realizing what I like and what I don't, so I've already sold a small handful of them and have been consistently debating with myself about completely getting rid of my two 40k armies (or at least one of them) or maybe just putting them in a box until I can decide, so they can stop taking up mental (and physical) real estate.

My cabinets as they currently stand, with tons more I haven't yet built and some that are packed away (such as my Battletech for easy transport)

So yeah, quite a few. At this point, I'll probably get rid of those tanks on the very bottom and then pack away all the red stuff on the left. I'd like to get more into that game (Napoleonic Wars), but I'm not ready yet. The stuff on the bottom right is in progress and I've built about 40% of those models, so lots more to go and I'll need to print a ton; my friends are really trying to get me into that game, but I've lost a lot of my motivation for huge army games, just because it means tons of very boring batch painting.

At any rate, 3/4 models actually came out of the printer, one fell off into the resin goo, so I'll have to redo that one. I'll probably redo the other little guy (Commando) because while I could run with it and no one will notice the minor flaws, they'll bug me.

I think I also need to finally replace my cleaning solution. It left a lot of deposits on these guys, so they're a bit shiny and lacking detail.

So yeah, quite a few. At this point, I'll probably get rid of those tanks on the very bottom and then pack away all the red stuff on the left. I'd like to get more into that game (Napoleonic Wars), but I'm not ready yet. The stuff on the bottom right is in progress and I've built about 40% of those models, so lots more to go and I'll need to print a ton; my friends are really trying to get me into that game, but I've lost a lot of my motivation for huge army games, just because it means tons of very boring batch painting.

At any rate, 3/4 models actually came out of the printer, one fell off into the resin goo, so I'll have to redo that one. I'll probably redo the other little guy (Commando) because while I could run with it and no one will notice the minor flaws, they'll bug me.

I think I also need to finally replace my cleaning solution. It left a lot of deposits on these guys, so they're a bit shiny and lacking detail.

Only response I have to your project is "WOW". Last photo (With the Commando you want to re-do), the one on the left makes me think of Star Wars, Avatar and Robocop. Cannot explain why I think of all three but that is pretty much what I come up with on them.

I have always thought of making a map for Dark Souls. This seems to be a much better more involved solution to what I thought of. Unfortunately, Dark souls I never remember the maps and there is pretty much nothing telling you when, where or how. Idea of the game is to see how many times you can die and for how long you remember where you are going (LMAO)

Most do not know that and would call a Shimano Cues or Tiagra the bike name since it gets splashed everywhere, but like you say it is the components not the actual frame.

Yes, they switched from standard brake fluid (Dot 5 or 6) to LV Mineral oil. The changed was based on several reasons but was mainly done because of braking pressure. With the original standard brake fluid systems, if you pulled the brakes just slightly too hard the wheel would lock. Only adjustment you had was on the rear of the calipers but that was mainly to adjust the travel distance.

With the LV mineral oil, the fluid compresses so you basically have something similar to an ABS system without any "fancy" accessories. Instead of the fluid going through a relief valve the fluid compresses and when the fluid is complete compressed the wheel will lock.

I recently (about 2 months ago) saw a Raleigh MTB with Hydraulic gear selectors. Was very interesting to see it in action and worked on a click system. The system I saw was on a 36 Speed system (4F x 9R).

Sound as if there are several cyclists here. Anyone of you ever heard of Optimist? I bought my Optimist (Also Semi-Carrera) through a friend around 2010. I kept it because was my first one. Once in a while I would take her out on the road, do her services etc., but cannot find any trace of even the company ever existed. I received an offer for it a while back, but I could not find anything Optimist related on the internet to validate the offer so refused to sell it.

There have been a lot of yellow bikes with big Shimano stickers on them. Some think they are Shimano made frames, but they're just demo bikes Shimano sends out for pros (including their team) to test the components.

Shimano has been using mineral oil in their brakes for some time. The main reason they switched to an LV version of it is standard viscosity mineral oil does not handle heat as well as DOT fluid. They have to make the seals more robust to accommodate it to avoid leaks. I'm hoping someone will make a more affordable LV mineral oil that will be adequate. The other main difference with their new brakes is they moved the lever's pivot much closer to the handlebar, which coupled with their swept lever shape (only on XTR), makes them require MUCH less finger pressure. This means they are quite a bit more comfortable to use on long descents.

I've never heard of Optimist, but I just got an email from BikeInn of Mark Cavendish with a new model of cycling glasses by Oakley that has a small camera just above the nose bridge. It's said to be AI driven (isn't just about everything that's high tech anymore?)

As far as Windows OSes go, Microsoft ever since Windows became used as a widespread OS decades ago, worked with agencies like the NSA to build code into their OSes that can be used to filter trigger words used by terrorists.
