Hi everyone, I’m TechInfo2026. I’m planning either a new PC build or a sensible upgrade this year and trying to balance performance, power efficiency, and long-term value. Curious what components matter most in real-world use today. Appreciate your insights.

For gaming, the GPU matters most.
For AI, the GPU
For everything else, the CPU matters most

What you need really depends on all the ways you are going to use it.

Thirty-two GB of RAM is a little better than 16 in most cases, but RAM is so expensive right now that I'd likely just go with 16 (or move what you have already into your new system).

As for GPU, AMD 9070 XT is likely the best value, although it uses more power than the 5070TI (which is also slightly faster). I'd probably look around and pick the one I can get the best price on. These are mid-tier GPUs. Going above this is extremely expensive. These will run 2k very well.

The Steam Deck and the new Steam Machine are great budget options.

Cost lol. Stuff be hella expensive these days. That said, GPU is most of your cost so make sure you're going down the right path there.

Most of the time that is correct, most of the time the price difference between it and my ram isn't just $60 though

Right now isn't ideal time to upgrade unless you have to.

Depending what your current PC is now, the sensible upgrade could be the safest option until ram prices drop. No idea when that might be

CPU & GPU not much use without ram. Ram is needed for all the operations on the PC. It can't even start without it (but then you also need PSU and MB, so there are a few vital parts to all PC really :D). Having 2 matching sets of ram is really helpful as it reduces the chances of memory errors. Shame lots of videos are telling people to buy 1 stick now, and 1 later. One way to make BSOD happen.

This could resolve the ram problem over time (only as it moves AI away from using dram

He asked what was most important, and for games that's the GPU by a longshot. The majority of games will play just fine on any reasonable CPU.

By your reasoning, I should have also mentioned memory, storage, motherboard, cooling and power supply since you can't play games without them.
