At what price does the average gamer refuse to buy a new AAA game?

I didnt grow up on Nintendo, but since I had my Switch Ive played a ton of Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8, Zelda BOTW, Luigis Mansion 3, and Kirby and the Forgotten Land both on my own and with my kid and they are really well made original games with fantastic ideas in them, and just a lot of fun.

I didn't grow up with Nintendo, the nes was released here when I was 23 and I never really liked it, took more notice once the snes and N64 came out, and then I found PC and never went back to consoles until I bought a Wii which I rejected.
I haven't really looked at them in years though, they know what will sell and just release better looking versions over time. I mainly like them now for the games they once made... like a lot of companies really.

I dont think thats true at all, the games I played were full of ideas, and the Kirby game was the first and only 3D Kirby game afaik. Zelda BOTW was wildly different from all the other Zeldas, and TOTK is supposed to be completely different again, even if it reuses assets.

Maybe Mariokart is as you say, but I havent played one since 64 until this one. The new Switch 2 version is meant to have an open world though.

There is actually a reason why the Japanese Switch 2 is cheaper as to buy it you need to meet certain restrictions. You need to have had accounts for a certain amount of time and play games in Japan
They are trying to fight scalping.
The cheaper console only has Japanese as a language choice

It looks like there is a large map with events in different regions that are all connected via roads but good chance you can just use a menu to pick them. Its possible the different regions are different cups. I don't know how mario kart works anymore, the last one I played was on N64

Until game is playable by people other than Nintendo of America, I won't really know for sure.

I generally don't buy AAA games at release. The last one that I did was Diablo 4.
I will buy DLC for games I play a lot, but I still waited for the D4 DLC to come down in price.
I also will buy games like Space Trucker, Pacific Drive. Really good games that are around £25.

There is no way I'd pay £70+ for a game. I have a huge backlog of games, especially from Epic giveaways, so it's not like I'm short of anything to play!

While I usually aim to snag super cheap games, I occasionally splurge on something pricey due to a meme, an impulse buy, or the influence of someone else. For example, I bought the Switch OLED solely for Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and most people would probably consider that a foolish investment for just one game. I also shelled out for the Starfield Premium Edition at an absurd price, simply because of the Todd Howard memes—"It just works".

I’m okay with a price tag of $59.99 for AAA(A) games. Anything higher, and there better be gold flakes sprinkled on top, Jimmy Hoffa’s resting place, or something equally extraordinary to justify it.

If Rockstar Games—or similar companies—tries to justify higher prices by complaining about inflation and production costs, I’ll give them my dead eye. I’m not buying their sob stories. These companies don’t care about us; they have no issue cutting content, launching games in nearly unplayable states, or using underhanded tactics to squeeze even more money out of our wallets.

In the end, it’s all about finding a deal for both parties—company and consumer. “Nothing personal; it’s just business.”

I do buy their sob stories, but in the end, it still comes down to the same thing: am I going to get my money's worth? I don't care if critical parts of the story were shunted into DLC, I just add the price of the DLC to the total cost of the game. I don't care if they showed the game with so many more cool features, then dumped them before release. By the time I get to the game, they might be back in or may have completely different cool things added. The product is this, the price is that, and that's all I need. (Well, assuming nothing crazy like horrific crunch time practices.)
