Asking for help on ExoDOS/Exo Project

Alright, so I'm very thrilled but frustrated at the same time. I ordered a Dell Inspiron i8 I believe. Newish laptop. I'm trying to get ExoDOS lite and also the Exo3Windows. I brought my laptop over to my friend who is a computer person. And we did get Exo3Windows playing. I played Victor Vector, The Vampire's Coffin briefly. Looked good! Then, we tried to get the ExoDOS running. That one was having some issues. My friend helped me create a local account instead of my hotmail microsoft account. He said that account was giving me problems. Due to storage limits or something.

He also mentioned he hates Windows 11 and was tempted to just get Windows 10 for me. Would that limit me later on?

So when I got home, I did the steps that he told me. Installed ExoDOS through TRANSMISSION. Clicked on ExoDOS folder, clicked set up. Then he had me install Launchpad. And all of a sudden ExoDOS was on my laptob and it was WORKING!!

So I tested it out for a little while. Then I wanted to go to Exo3Windows and play those games too. He said those games would all be working. I could not find it or any way to play it. So I go back into ExoDOS and now ExoDOS will not open. It says file not found, make sure you spelled it right. What in the word does that mean? Anyways, whatever I try now, nothing works. This is frustrating because we spent all night working on this. I stayed up on my own until
5 am trying to get it back. Launchpad is not doing it's thing. I tried reinstalling it, restarting the computer and nothing happens. Sometimes it just takes me to GOG.

Lets step back a bit as i think theres some questions i need to ask.

I understand that everything worked fine when you installed ExoWin3.1. Everything worked fine when you installed ExoDOS.

now the question is what happened next. Was ExoDos still running when you tried Lauchbox to start ExoWin3.1?

I've noticed that you can't have both running at the same time as technically Launchbox is already started. So only one at a time.

SIDE NOTE: there is a way to merge the 2 collections together into one so you use only one launchbox.exe. See following link:

So lets go into some troubleshooting:

. So I go back into ExoDOS and now ExoDOS will not open. It says file not found, make sure you spelled it right. What in the word does that mean?

How were you trying to access ExoDOS? Was it via the desktop shortcut?

The error you mentioned above occurs if the file its looking for is not in the specified location. Were the folders moved AFTER you installed it?

Can you find the ExoDOS and ExoWin3.1 folders and all the files? if so where are they atm?

if you go to windows explorer can you navigate and find the ExoDOS and Exowin3.1 folder and the files? if the answer is yes, can you click on the Launchbox.exe within those folders?

Incidentally if you're using the shortcut on your desktop, is it pointing tothat location where the files are located?

in the images below my ExoDOS is pointing to the same location where i have my Launchbox.exe (i don't have one for Exowin3.1, it didn't create one when i installed it)

Sidenote: you mentioned you installed ExoWin3.1 under the hotmail account before creating a separate account. So it makes me wonder whether its a permissions issue somewhere. Unless the new account is an Adminstrator which case

let me know what you find and we'll go from there.

Wow. Thanks for the info. I don't know what happened but I was able to get back into Exo3Windows and Exodos and play. Some good stuff I should say!

Maybe it was just the order I did it. I went into On This PC and then at some point hit Launch Box and it worked for both Exo3 and Exodos, at different times of course.

It wasn't working all night a couple nights ago and now doesn't seem to have an issue. That's cool how you can merge them. But yea I was trying the shortcut, which wasn't working.

Now, I am able to get into Exo3 and play the Vampire games! But for all of the other games, I don't seem to be able to install them. I go to a game, hit Y to install, but no action seems to happen.

you probably need to download the files first.

unlike ExoDOS lite, i don't think there's a way to download /install within ExoWin3.1. i'll try again but i don't recall it working.

The ExoWin3.1 assumes that you are downloading everything (all 300gb of it) but since we didn't in my guide, you'll need to run the torrent file and select the (new) games you want. once downloaded (They should in eXoWin3x\eXo\eXoWin3x) if you run the game within Launchbox it should install.

But glad its working again! enjoy some retro gaming history!
