Anyone still prefer single-player games over live-service titles?

Lately I’ve noticed more games leaning heavily into live-service models.
Personally, I still enjoy single-player experiences more because I can play at my own pace without worrying about updates or seasons.
Games like Baldur’s Gate 3 and Elden Ring really reminded me why I enjoy offline-focused design.
How do you feel about this trend?
Do you still prefer single-player games, or do you enjoy live-service titles more?

I only play single player games unless the game I want to play is only online... looks at Diablo 4.

  • Being able to pause and walk away without having to explain where you were, is reason.
  • Not being expected to be online to do something I don't really want to do, is another.
  • Less arguments if you are the only player.
  • NO need for a headset.
  • Monetisation is less of an element. Shops may exist but they aren't as much in your face as online,

Errr, the live service model is on a solid downward trend. I don't think they are gone yet, but they aren't far behind NFTs. Or at least the type everyone was complaining about where the game pushes hard to try and get you to keep playing every month.

The bandwagon has moved on to AI now.

P.S. Did you hear that the developers over at Foreaxels used AI to decide what kind of pizza to order at one of their late night sessions!?

I ALWAYS prefer sp games anymore. While it is sad that lately a lot of them release in crap condition, I find the writing is usually better. I played online YEARS ago when I was much younger, and it can be exiting for a while, but eventually you get burned out on the repetition, frenetic pace, cheating, and smack talk.

The exception being the ultra short campaigns that are included with online games like CoD. One standout that surprised me though was the very good and lengthy sp campaign included with Titanfall 2. I hope Titanfall 3 will be given as much sp love.
