Hi there,

Looking to build my first pc alongside my 11 year old son who is very interested in learning as well. I'm not ready for him to start streaming but id like the pc to be able to handle it if we do decide later on. Looking to run AAA games with some video editing capabilities as well.

Please take a look at the build below and let me know your honest opinion!

Why Are You Upgrading: currently the most powerful computer in the house is a surface pro. I play COD on console and would like to learn on PC as well as my son with Fortnite.

Budget: 1500-2000 ish. Not too stuck on price point but I dont want to spend money that I don't need to.

Approximate Purchase Date: ASAP

Use Case: Gaming/Streaming

Parts to Upgrade: Starting from scratch

Are you buying a monitor: Yes the Dell S2719DGF 27" 2560x1440 155hz monitor

Your Monitor Resolution and desired frame rate: Best that we can get with the price point

Preferred Website(s) for Parts? I'm fine with mix/match

Parts Preferences:
by brand or type (e.g.: I would like to upgrade to Intel CPU)

Overclocking: Yes

Additional Comments: Looking for any other tips for things to get/research in order to put this all together with my son. I want it to be a great learning experience for both of us but also I'd like it too last quite a while.

Thank you all for your help. Since this is our first build, do you think the AIO cooling will be too much? I'll definitely consider that case and I didn't realize the keyboard I chose was a combo. Good catch!

Given this is your first PC build, keeping it simple is always a good approach (maybe not worry about overclocking and sticking with the AMD stock cooler).

Another consideration is that given your video card is in the top tier bracket - you could get a 3600 CPU (again, stock cooler) and save your self some additional cash with negligible impact (especially, if you are going to game at above 1080p).

Since I'm apparently having a pipe dream with this 3080 GPU do you guys recommend a 1660ti in the meantime to have in place until the 3080 becomes available?

There is no real good answer - given that the MSRP is $280-300 and it's now going for $400-700+. Once inventory normalizes, then your value loss will be significantly more. If you can find a good used one or lucky enough to get one around MSRP - then the 1660ti will offer very excellent performance at 1080p. Be mindful on your CPU selection (Zen2 vs Zen3) since it only matters on gaming performance at 1080p.
