Advice - first gaming PC, coming from PS5

Hello all.

I'm currently a PS5 user but I'm keen to upgrade to the PS5 Pro or potentially a new gaming PC. I've never owned a Gaming PC before so the transition will be new to me. I'm just looking for some advice as someone potentially going to PC but can't really make up my mind.

I'm not really tech savvy with the PC space, I have a general idea of the components and what they do but in terms of parts v performance I'd want, it can be a minefield for a console fan boy.

I own a Samsung Odyssey G5 (G70B) monitor - 4k, HDMI2.1, 144hz refresh rate. What I would realistically like to get out of my gaming experience is this:
  • Single player games - 4k, or as close to what the games offer. Very happy with 60fps performance on this front if this means a higher resolution, particularly for single player games.
  • FPS games, max 144hz refresh rate, with better graphics than that offered by the 120fps mode on Call of Duty and Warzone on PS5 for example.
The PS5 Pro announcement really got me thinking whether the upgrade there is really satisfactory enough, possibly not.

I understand that gaming PCs offer far higher framerates for games than consoles, but I very much want to cater for the monitor I have.

I may be clutching at straws here, but what sort of specs should I be looking at to get the best resolutions with a max 144hz output? Is there something affordable out there or am I in dream land?

Would prefer pre-built, but would be keen to learn to build my own if costs were a major factor.

Thank you.

Welcome to the forum—and potentially to the bright side :)

We have some great people here to advise you, but they need to know your budget and if that includes all extras—eg mouse, KB, headset etc—or not.

Also your country, currency and any preferred retailers in your area or online.

Thanks Brian. I'm from the UK, so have been looking on CyberPower, PCspecialists and Overclockers etc.

I don't have a set budget in mind, but would like to keep costs as low as possible for the specs/performance I'd want/hope to get. I don't know if my expectations are too high perhaps.

A budget of under £2k possibly, if that even is achievable for the performance I'd want I'm not entirely sure. Again, I'm not entirely sure what builds or specs would be good for a max 144 refresh rate, with the the highest possible resolution. I don't see much value going over the 144 refresh rate as I won't be changing my monitor.

Thank you.
