Hello All,

I am looking at building a primarily gaming rig, but will be streaming videos as well. I assume I don't need to really worry about the streaming aspect as a PC powerful enough to run high res games should be able to handle streaming no issue (please correct me if I am wrong).

I had a bad experience with AMD a long time ago so I usually go with Intel however I am not against AMD assuming they are more stable/reliable.

I usually buy from a company called Memory Express (https://www.memoryexpress.com/), but would entertain looking at any other Canadian companies.

I will be using HDMI over ethernet (EZCOO HDMI Extender with ARC (easycoolav.com) ) as well as USB over ethernet (USB2.0 Extender over cat 5/6 up to 165ft, Expand to 4 USB ports (easycoolav.com) ) so that my PC will be physically located in the mechanical room. Sadly the manufacturer of the above devices only sells a combo HDMI+USB over ethernet in the UK (from what I could see), but would love to know if there is a combo unit from any reputable manufacturer in Canada so I can cut down on the # of devices.

My aim for PC placement is so that I can "move" my PC to any displays in my house by simply swapping ethernet cables to the desired room.

Displays that will connect to this PC:

1) 24" 1080p monitor;
2) 80" 1080p LED TV;
3) 46" 1080p LED TV;
4) Future: ~34" curved gaming monitor; (Please feel free to recommend this monitor - I am not including the cost of this monitor in my PC budget)
5) Future: 80+" probably 4K TV.

There would be a handful of games that I would play on the large screen (Elite Dangerous, random JRPG - Think Final Fantasy series), but the vast majority of my gaming would be on the current 24" (34" curved down the road).

I hope I have included enough information, but if I missed anything please let me know.

Thank you!

I'm not much help on the HDMI + USB ... hopefully someone with knowledge of that post on here. Check Memory Express for any components listed on here from a different retailer to see if they have them.

DDR5 version of that build I posted up above. Just swap out the board and RAM in that build with these.

Will do.

I just checked out the SSDs you linked and was wondering why you recommended the drives you did (primary vs. storage). I would have assumed that the higher performance one would be primary and therefore would be more expensive, but the prices seem to show the opposite. When I tried to do a comparison between the 2 drives they apparently used different metrics/terminology so I am at a loss as to how to do a proper comparison (and why not just go with 2 of the cheaper drives).

Specs I am trying to compare:

M.2 drive (Primary):

Read: up to 2,600MB/s
Write: up to 1,800MB/s
Random IOPS
Reads: up to 360,000 IOPS
Writes: up to 384,000 IOPS

NAND (Storage):

Read: ≤ 560 MB/s
Write: ≤ 530 MB/s

If I am reading these correctly, the M.2 is 3-4 times faster than the NAND and $40 cheaper. Shouldn't I get 2x the M.2s?

I appreciate all the help!

In the US those drives are priced almost identical ... not so much in Canada. With that said SATA SSD's last a long time ... longevity, and they run cooler than an M.2 SSD. They make a good storage drive to save your streams to.

Memory express is out of stock on some of the components and have suggested replacements. I am hoping to get your opinion on if these suggestions are okay to proceed with.

Replaced DD5 with the motherboard and RAM you suggested for DDR4 as they do not have the DDR5 motherboard. From what I looked up, the performance improvement from DDR4 to DDR5 isn't that much so if I am correct then I think DDR4 is good enough.

SSD: Western Digital Blue SN570 NVMe M.2 SSD Solid State Drive, 2TB - M.2 Solid State Drives - Memory Express Inc.

Case: https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX00115038

CPU Cooler: https://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/MX00120249

Video Card: Asus TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3080 Ti OC Edition (LHR) 12GB PCI-E w/ Dual HDMI, Triple DP - PCI-E Video Cards - Memory Express Inc.

Thanks!

Nice ^^ btw what board did you decide on?

That board has all the bells & whistles. ^^

If you don't need wifi then here's a board to consider.

GIGABYTE Z690 GAMING X DDR4 $269.99
