Question Need help choosing computer component

Which renderers are you using? The choice in renderer can make a significant factor as some are CPU based, while others GPU. If you use a lot of heavy GPU renderers it may be worth saving up to fit a 4080 into the budget as it has a significant leg up at it due to way more compute cores and a...

What GPU do you have? (4th Qtr 2023)

Asus Strix GTX1080. It is an old fella now, with a limping fan just to drive its age home, but because of its oversized heat-sink, the fan in question still spinning up past 50% and FSR having given a second-lease. It is still holding. Genuinely looking at having to upgrade in the coming year...

Giveaway Have a Nice Death Razer Giveaway

Honestly the CEO kit with the Mini death statue is the grand prize in my eyes. Razer gear is temporary, but a burned out death trying to enjoy a coffee? That is forever!

Question New pc build advice with a bit of bling

Monitor speakers are more of a "Last resort" and mostly just there as part of a checkmark. Dedicated speakers will nearly ALWAYS win by miles. There are a lot of decent speakers out there in a lot of pricing categories. So you would need to think in price and preferred design. Something modern...

Which of your games has the best/worst procedurally generated world?

Plenty of good and bad procedural generators i've seen, but if i had to pick one. I would pick the one that i got a Love/Hate relationship with. Which is the one of Deep Rock Galactic. It knows how to make some very nice looking caves, but sometimes it derps and puts mission objectives in...

Question New pc build advice with a bit of bling

Hmm. If you are looking into Image/Video Editing. I would not stray away from using an NVidia GPU. They generally have better compatibility with the bigger creative software packages out there. So i would recommend to find a RTX3070 as a GPU. Just in case you work with something that can make...

Rate my sons computer and recommend upgrades.

Honestly. These are all still pretty decent components for playing at Full-HD (1080p) and maybe Quad-HD (1440p). But not 4K (2160p) At most you may want to swap out the CPU for some future proofing with something like a Ryzen 5000 series, as those are still compatible with the motherboard and...

Question Weird problem with my minitor

That looks like the LED backlight is starting to fail. It can happen with monitors both new and old. There is unfortunatly not much that can be done about it as the issue often lies within the internal hardware. It could be a Brick not providing enough power, but you would need to give some...

Has a game closed that you were using.

Well if talking like official closure. I can only say: Battleforge. If also including any form of not officially, but practically is due to like say neglect and inaction towards cheaters, bots and DDOS or a 3rd party service closing and not bothering to replace (e.g. Gamespy), then the list...

5% CPU, 95% GPU in games. Is that normal?

Are you sure you are looking at the total CPU use and not that of like say the "Service CPU Usage"? Or perhaps are looking at a individual core that isn't getting used? Even just idle my system uses 5-10% of my total CPU capacity. Granted it is a older R5 1600.

GPU Usage fluctuating Between 0-100% and Framerate and FrameTime spikes

I'm also questioning how the PC was supposedly bought in 2020, yet has a I7 3770s. That CPU was released in 2012, making it over a decade old now. Which btw if this is a legit post. Would probably be the prime suspect for lag. You can't expect a 10y old CPU to handle (semi) contemporary titles...

Question Screen tearing despite new hardware and optimized settings

Hmm. First thing to try to see is if you can confirm that the G-sync is operating. My monitor has a handy little gsync feature where it shows its actual controlled refresh rate in the corner. You'd be surprised how finnicky variable refresh can be to get working properly at times... <_<...
