Where are all the Star Trek fans?

Life long Star Trek fan here! :) I'm (re)watching the entire franchise with my older son now. We're halfway through S1 of TOS. He's really enjoying the story lines so far. The goofy special effects from the 60's and campy acting is a bonus. Maybe by the time we get to "Picard" the show will...

Mid-week Question: How often do you de-dust your PC?

I wipe down my computer once a month or so. I blow all the dust out once a year. My home has hard floors and I try to keep it tidy. I think houses with carpets lead to dustier computers. -=- Boris

Balance between CPU, GPU, and thermal limits

I've been toying with the idea of upgrading from my old Dell E6430 laptop. Most current models under $1000 pair a GTX 1650 or GTX 1660 Ti with either an Intel i5-9300h or i7-9750h or with an AMD Ryzen R5 3550H or Ryzen 7 3750H. I usually see the more powerful 1660 Ti paired up with the weaker...

Mouse pad and joystick share I/O with keyboard?

Thanks! I have been super busy lately with guests and haven't had time to play around with this. Hopefully I will have some time this weekend to poke around in my registry. -=- Boris

Mouse pad and joystick share I/O with keyboard?

Nope. :( I tried another experiment. Opened up Notepad and held down a key. The mouse cursor disappeared. I wiggled the mouse. When I let go of the key the cursor was where I last left it. Would a gaming laptop do the same? I didn’t think of this until your post. There was nothing in there...

Mouse pad and joystick share I/O with keyboard?

I have an older Dell E6430 laptop for low-resolution, low-settings gaming on the go. Last night I tried using the keyboard and mouse nub at the same. I discovered much to my dismay that when running forward in a game using a keyboard command ("W") I cannot steer left/right with the mouse...

    Transporting a MicroATX cube?

I agree. It's a little risky to transport a desktop of any size - even a small cube of a PC. Desktops aren't designed to withstand a steady dose of knocks, bumps, and drops. They are designed to sit on top of a desk. ;) If you want to travel with a PC then I would suggest a decent gaming...

Giveaway *Winner Announced!* The Games We Play - Win an amazing MSI Gaming hardware bundle!

I would (re)play Subnautica and Doom. Then I would play Subnautica Below Zero and Doom Eternal. Then I'd fire up my Atari 8-bit emulator, Altirra, and play something like Zaxxon. :sunglasses: -=- Boris

What games were turning points for you?

Pac-Man in 1983 on my Atari 800 because it felt like a fast action game to a little kid in the early 80s. It also looked super cool compared to the crap 2600 version. M.U.L.E. on my Atari 800 in 1984 because that was the first game that wasn't a "dumb" arcade game. Test Drive on my Atari ST in...

What would a next gen cooling system in a laptop look like?

In addition to all that, could the layout of a laptop be changed? Does the GPU need to be under the keyboard or could it somehow be placed inside the display lid? Would that spread the heat to a new, larger surface that may not require as much fan power? -=- Boris

What would a next gen cooling system in a laptop look like?

I've only ever seen fans, pipes, and liquid cooling used for cooling. They're well understood and generally inexpensive ... but, I've always thought they're limited in their effectiveness. There's got to be something better just around the corner. Whatever that better design and method is ought...

    Custom Mouse Pad?

Has anyone here ordered a customized mouse pad with a graphic of their own choice? I was thinking of getting one of those big ones, 31" x 12", or somewhere around that size. Thanks! -=- Boris

Competition Win an EPIC Black Edition gaming chair from noblechairs!

Not a hard question at all! M.U.L.E. Written by Ozark Software and published by Electronic Arts. 1983. Yes, I'm a little on the older side. 👴

Question Please help my OCD...OR make it worse(but please don't)

Hmm! I've always been a bit hesitant to online backups. Maybe I'm a control freak and just need everything locally in my hands. Restores are faster and don't need online connections, especially after a catastrophic hardware failure.

    Question Cloning software

Another vote for the free version of Macrium Reflect. It has enough enabled features to get the job done.
