i know i shouldnt be asking it here but i have an issue with my pc where i cant open windows security its just asking me to install a software from microsoft store is anyone willing to help

have you looked on windows store? could be you need an update?
I would run windows update as well

does it say what you need?

If it's Windows Defender, go ahead and install it.

If not, what is the software?

MS store should be safe, don't worry about going there.

Windows defender should be installed already. Neither 10 or 11 will let you remove it. You can disable it but its still there in most cases.

Screenshots of the message would be good. Sounds suspect to me.

Yeah, we need more info to clarify—could indeed be malware masquerading.

Windows defender should be installed already. Neither 10 or 11 will let you remove it. You can disable it but its still there in most cases.

Can you pass on a screenshot of all apps installed?
Start>type Control Panel>hit Enter>Uninstall a program.

That looks very suspicious to me, almost definitely malware. You need to scan your system.

2. choose run...
   
3. type winver and press enter
   
4. current version is 23H2

On windows 11 do this

1) launch powershell as an admin
2) Set-ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted
3) Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register "$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml"}

4) Set-ExecutionPolicy restricted

not directly anyway, its more powershell. manifest is installing default applications from memory.
it should get them from the windows image file.

I glanced over it very quickly, saw Policy in the steps and brain computed it as a Registry tweak.

if the fix doesn't help, and he is on 23H2, we could try a repair install. It should in theory fix it. It replaces windows so maybe.

i tried resetting my pc so atm i have legit apps from steam, epic games, rainmeter etc

i downloaded hitmanpro and deleted everything that shouldnt be on my pc but it still doesnt work i did everything the app wanted me to do

Very unlikely, they have offices in Estonia, Italy, and Ireland is their EAME HQ.

Do you have a source link for that? I looked into it briefly and cannot find any such news—and I'd also expect to have seen it mentioned in security articles I scan from time to time.

It would be odd for one EU country to restrict it while others host offices for it.

yes i still get the same message about having to look into microsoft store for windows security
