Upgrade SFF Dell OptiPlex 7020 Graphics Card

Hi,

I'm trying to upgrade the graphics card on my son's PC which I only purchased for him last year.

The stumbling block I have is the PC is compact (SFF) so I'm really limited to graphics card that are small enough to fit.

Does anyone have any suggestions of what graphics card or does anyone see any problems with me taking the motherboard etc out of the SFF case and buying a new gaming case, giving me more options on the graphics card.

What's the Power supply on it and what kind of games does he want to play?

It's also a mixed bagged. Depending what kind of games he plays there may be a card without having to transfer everything over to another case, but if he wants to play some more demanding games it may be worth moving to a big sized box. That way you can get a good card, but may also have to get a better power supply.

Thanks for the message, he plays 4nite, Rublux and M1necraft, I bought him Hogwarts Legacy for Christmas but it won't play which is why I'm looking to upgrade his card.

As for the power supply its a Dell Model HU255ES-01 - Max Power Output 255w

Happy to upgrade PSU as well if needed.

Dells are notoriously proprietary so moving to a stand case may not be feasible. Definitely not without adapting connectors.

Please post a link if the exact version of your Dell. A low profile GPU may be your only choice.

There are other 3050 models. You need one that supports a low profile bracket.

I would also get a better power supply. Being a 3050, 255w might not be powerful enough. Might need a 450w, but not sure what that 3050 needs for power. My old one I had before in my acer. I had a 500w, but I think 450w was recommended at the time I got it.

The GPU recommended only calls for 300w PSUs. It also doesn't require an external power connection. The current Dell PSU should be good enough.

A more capable unit is better, but not absolutely necessary in this case.

Hi, just want to say thanks for all your help. Purchased a 3050 card as recommended above by @COLGeek. Fits and work like a treat. PSU seems to be ok, so I will upgrade that at some point. Thanks again
