True Blue Streamer

With a limited budget and a list of demands I went for function over form with this Blue collar build, it does what it needs to do with no frills. Starting with the CPU I went with a AMD 3600X for its better cost to performance and multi-threaded throughput over Intel. Pair that with an Gigabyte B450 AORUS for a solid foundation. 500 GB NVME storage and 2TB backup for saving streams. Went with the RTX 2060 super because of the included NVENC encoders that allow for easier streaming and you would be able to play 4k games. Finish with a Blue Fractal Design case with glass sides for a slick look to this Blue Collar build. A capture card could be added for $80-$200 for a decent one.

This PC is about maximum performance per-dollar, with favor placed on streaming performance. The 2070 Super, with it's NVENC video encoder, will deliver superb streaming performance while still being able to play most games at 4k. The R5 3600 further supports this with 12 threads of multi-tasking support. The 128GB NVME drive will give excellent system performance, while the 1 TB 7200 RPM disk drive will provide ample storage. The cougar MX330 provides an attractive and well ventilated enclosures for the hardware.

Overall, one would be hard-pressed to fit more performance into a PC within this price-point.

Name: Killstreak

here is my take on it. No capture card, but an rtx 2070 to take advantage of the nvenc codec which is simply amazing. I could have gone 2060super, but 2070 its just an edge better and those few fps more might help. 1tb drive.. and a 6core cpu to run game and obs. Last but not least amazing 16gb ram that overclocks great!

RedStream

Themed using black/red parts where I could. (Case, mb, ram)

x470 and 3600 DDR for that little extra. Added a hdmi grabber to stream the Xbox/playstation too.

Had to cut somewhere, so only 512gb m.2 storage. Chose 5700xt since 4k was required.

Welcome to the very first PC Gamer Best PC Builds competition!

It's an open secret that here at PC Gamer we love PC Building. Building your own PC makes for a fun weekend project, and nets you the biggest performance bang for your buck. It's hard to match the sweet satisfaction of customizing each component to fit your specifications and needs. We want to share the joy of PC Building with the entire community, which is why we're challenging you to submit your best performing builds at the lowest possible price in a number of categories.

The competition will run from April 17th till April 27th. This means you have a week to submit your builds!

At the end of the competition the winners and their builds will be featured on the PC Gamer home page. Submit your build and get that clout!

This is the $1000 Gaming and Streaming Build
We're looking for the best streaming and gaming build for under $1000. We will favor submissions that include capture cards and can game in 4K.

How does it work?
We're gonna break this competition down into 4 parts:
  1. Submit your builds
  2. After a week of submissions, the PC Gamer staff will pick their top 5 in each category. We will judge primarily on quality of components, price, and theoretical system performance.
  3. Users vote on their favorite build of the top 5.
  4. We feature the winning builds in each category on the PC Gamer homepage.

How do I submit a build?

  1. Head to the PCPartPicker System Builder.
  2. Build your system!
  3. When you're all set, smash that BB code button
  4. Copy the BB code
  5. Head to this thread, respond hit the BB code toggle in the tool bar
  6. Paste the BB code and post your thread!

Ground Rules - Read this or you will be disqualified

  • Only one build per budget category, per user. Multiple builds from a single user or duplicate accounts will be disqualified.
  • Do not go over budget.
  • Use list prices only: coupons, rebates, bundles or any other limited-time offers will not be accepted.
  • Do not include shipping or tax in your final budget.
  • Do not include the Operating System, Monitor or VR Headset, Keyboard, Mouse or Gamepad.
  • All builds must have a name.
  • Do not put your forum handle in the name of your build, and avoid odd capitalizations & symbols.
  • We encourage users to use PCPartPicker's System Build for speedy construction.
  • Do not post a link to your build, but rather please be sure to export as BBCode for a quick copy/paste to the forums

Here are links to all three build categories:

$500 Min Spec Console Killer
$1000 Streaming and Gaming Build
$2000 Ultra High Quality Cyberpunk 2077 Build

Good luck and may the best build win!

Name: Modern Gamer

Purpose: 4k gaming capable at ultra settings (in some titles) at 30+ FPS, with a base system (cpu, MB, case, and PSU) that will allow you to upgrade your GPU in ~3 years and retain the rest of the system. TLC based NVMe SSD boot drive of decent size, 2 TB of slow storage for general files and game data archives, and 16 GB of 3600 ram at faster timings (when manually set in UEFI) provide faster response combined to other options.

Note: Do yourself a favor and shop around for deals, rebates, and combos. Further, don't trust that PCPartPicker has everything (especially with the limits of this competition, with only Newegg and Amazon allowed). Money, most notably on the MB, could be saved by doing so.

Synopsis
I wanted to think different on this build. So not only is this a Game & Stream box, we can also put this in the living room and play it on a big screen TV as well, or rack mount it for a home movie theater room, run 4K Blu-rays, all while not loosing functionality. You can also use this as a Media streaming server, streaming movies and music thru the home.
