Steam Summer Sale 2024

I'm thinking about:

Frostpunk - Already own it on Epic, but would be nice to have a lazy way to install it on Deck

Shadow of War - Mildly interested in it, I thought Shadow of Mordor was ok, but I heard this was better. It's cheap, so that's a maybe.

Humankind - The most expensive at $5, but probably the most likely one I should buy, as I really loved Endless Legend and I've been eyeballing this one since before release. Poor reviews always scare me away, however and I should also probably try to get into Old World first, which I bought 3 years ago or whatever and didn't play more than a couple hours of.

Baldur's Gate 3 is only 20% off after all this time

Deep breath… Patience my lad, Patience!

Couple of good deals I saw when scanning:
90% $5 Humankind
95% $3 Civ 6
90% $4 Disco Elysium - The Final Cut

Personally not interested in Disco, I have Civ 6, and Humankind doesn't seem to be worth the investment of time judging by a few well-written reviews on Steam.

I loved Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War has been on my mental wishlist since I first heard about it (and then it left when I heard about the microtransactions, but then it returned when they removed those).

My backlog is already big enough though, so I've just added it to my Steam wishlist.

You all are completely ignoring the most important discounted software on Steam

These people make artists' posers for all sorts of things, but this one has always struck me as humorous. Apparently they think so, too, based on their trailers.

I ended up picking it up, mostly because of how damn cheap it was. No idea when I'll play that one, but here's what I did end up with:

Frostpunk - no idea when I'll play, but just wanted to get it away from Epic

Shadow of War

Metro 2033/Last Light Redux - been thinking about this series again lately. I bought and played a good amount of 2033 back when it first released and kind of hated it, but I don't think I gave it a fair shake. I expected Stalker and that's not what I got, so I was kind of mad about it. But at $2 a piece, I figure I'll give the first two games another go.

Forza 4 Ultimate - Been awhile since I played a racing game, but open world is appealing. Honestly, I mostly got this one guy my kids and the Lego DLC. I'll probably give it a try and see how I like it, but it's really more for them to get a couple of hours out of before they go back to Minecraft.

i played it a couple of years back. I loved Shadow of Mordor but i was pretty sick of Shadow of war. it was shadow of mordor stretched 4 times as long and the content is far too little. Wasn't particularly compelling and tedious for my liking. I did try the DLC and honeslty, meh. The end game is still a huge grind and i just said f-that and just went on youtube to see the ending.

its ok for the rock bottom price, but i was left disappointed.

When I played Shadow of Mordor I had a game-breaking bug about an hour into the game. It was a rare bug, but I managed to find a few other people who experienced it.

I might go back to it now that I'm on a different system. I enjoyed it for the one hour I got to play.

Ever since 2022, I have had that old-person problem that inflation has increased a lot faster than my mental model of what counts as expensive. So I look at a game and think “phoo, that's a bit steep!” when actually it's quite reasonable in 2024 prices. On the bright side it is leading me to save money by not buying so many games.

Even so, I feel justified in being vexed that there aren't steep sales on older items like we had back when I were a lad. TW:WH1's “Call of the Beastmen” expansion from 2016 is still £7.49 on sale. 2017's Battle Brothers is still £12.49 on sale. Come on guys, these should be available for a couple of quid by this point.

Same here. Take sekiro for example. never drops below 24.99. i did buy it a few years back but the price has remained mostly static. You sometimes have a knack for some games how quickly they'll drop and some will never discount. but tbh its probably because i wait so long that the only way it was going was down.

i did notice one or 2 things i want, but i just feel like with my current collection of games i need to play, i could probably wait till the autmn/winter sale. Who knows? humble choice might have it at a knock down price.

Shadow of War should have been called The Ballad of Bruz! That guy knows how to deliver a tutorial.

I got (so far):

Edit: Ooops, forgot a DLC:
