Two screens means new learning...

If these steps don't seem to work
How to set two different wallpapers on 2 monitors
  • Right-click the desktop.
  • Click Personalize.
  • Click Background.
  • Right-click a photo.
  • Click Set for monitor 1.
  • Right-click another photo.
  • Click Set for monitor 2.
And you don't get choices of monitor 1 or 2, I get choices of all my desktops that I have made.
ZEIZTrQ.jpeg

For example

Windows gets confused between virtual desktops and actual ones. Once I deleted all 4 of my virtual ones, it shows monitors 1 and 2 like it should.

@Zed Clampet

this is caused by 1 AI translating text which another AI acted on
There are two huge problems here, as I see it, but the major one is that the crypto people aren't ready to deal with this sort of thing. There are things about crypto that make it inherently secure (to a point) and that has made them complacent.

With AI, they are going to have to treat security the same way financial institutions do. So far as I can tell, the crypto operations don't even have two-factor authentication. That's not good enough anymore.

Also, crypto is becoming a standard part of the economy. Many sites now accept it as payment, and that's a good thing. When Visa and Mastercard decide you have to remove content, this gives sites an easy alternative. It's becoming easier every day.

But my point about this is that crypto operations need to be included with banking operations so that they are forced to follow certain standards and be audited annually by cybersecurity auditors like the one I retired from and my wife works at now.

The other major problem is that AI safety rails don't work on humans (they don't really work on AI either--see my other rants) and a human can get an AI to do anything so long as they ask correctly. As I've said over and over recently, AI simply cannot be allowed access to anything crucial. Systems can tell when they are talking to AI (as of now). Block them from critical operations. But the AI people won't do that because getting AI to interact with systems is a major selling point and making them a ton of money.

By the way, the head of OpenAI admitted a couple of days ago what I've been screaming about. He was very careful how he phrased it, but safety rails ultimately don't work. Right now there doesn't seem to be any way to secure AI.

That's why CoPilot can't fix your PC, only tell you how to fix it. Because it would eventually destroy your data, your components, etc. It wouldn't mean to. It would just be a random result of how it works.

I watched this

and I wondered what mine showed. Look in GPU Z, no monitor choice on advanced tab drop down.
look at possible causes, one was corrupt drivers... think... I only installed them two days ago?
3d mark had crashed looking for info on Sunday, so maybe?

So I ran AMD cleanup utility again, it removed all AMD again (except chipset drivers)
Reinstalled latest AMD drivers, and they asked for a restart that I hadn't remembered from Sunday (but then I did plenty that day, I probably forget).
ran GPU Z again, no tab again...
run 3d mark, it times out checking system info... like it did before.
Ran slormancer, it seems okay (find out it also supports HDR)
try to load Adrenaline on desktop and it won't load...
restart PC and it works fine again.

Look on Google to discover that 3d Mark haven't validated my drivers yet, which is likely cause. As it can fail to find info on new drivers.
Drivers released 4th May, they being slack.
Could be same reason GPU Z also doesn't show right info.

Its concerning when you get so many things happen and you not sure if its you or something else.

My cable wasn't some random Display Port cable, it was a 16k Display Port 2.1 certified cable, can run 40gbps when the GPU can't anyway.
can only do 30 hz at 16k.,.. lol. or 240hz at 4k

realises he should have an 80... they not easy to find here, might buy one off Amazon (or get brother too)

while a DP80 cable is nice for the future, DP40 is fine if I use DSC (Display Stream Compression) which is on by default on my monitor. I don't need to rush out an get one, but I probably order one before I get a better GPU... in a few years.

I wish I hadn't messed with my GPU drivers on Sunday. They were working fine.

So last night I hibernated the PC like normal.
  1. Wake up this morning, tap the keyboard to wake PC...
  2. it started to the logon screen
  3. put in PIN and both screens turned off...
  4. erm, tap kb again...
  5. had to press reset on case and restart

this time I got into windows but adrenaline app wouldn't load
all I would get is a flash screen saying it was starting up and nothing would.

I had read some people reported 26.5.1 is unstable... I guess they are right.

  1. Ran AMD cleanup again, at least its fast.
  2. Installed 26.3.1 and so far it seems to be working
  3. Hibernated PC, woke as normal.
  4. adrenaline loads now without the flash screen... flash screen being a little box that appears on desktop saying its starting up. I can still get it if I try to get into adrenaline at start up
3d Mark isn't working and GPU - Z isn't showing Monitor tab, but I think I just ignore them.

I haven't had any problems with display drivers prior to now. Think I stay on 3.1 as 5.1 didn't add anything I need. 3.1 added FSR 4.1

leave it until tomorrow. See what happens after a few hours off.
See if it happens again.

its easy enough to wake the lg, just press the joystick button underneath it, but the Asus doesn't do that. One downside of using kvm on monitor to control mouse/kb is if monitor doesn't work, neither do they. Maybe I run one of them off PC still. Keyboard is wireless... wonders why he using the cable at all. Habit.

they kind of pointless working if the screen is off. But it may wake it back up. I think it was the drivers though as Firefox also crashed randomly yesterday and it rarely does.

starting to worry me.

3d mark takes up to 5 minutes to collect system info, I think I just need to wait... it seemed to be taking too long to start any benchmark. Anort tried it and found the same wait.

3d mark was being a pain, needed to restart PC twice, and close HWINFO before it would run both tests. Wasted more time working out why

wasted 3 hours to run two benchmarks and the results were the same as last time since nothing inside PC had changed. It looked the same too.

Having two screens makes me wish you could set Firefox/Youtube to open a video full screen on the other display.
ZyoMutD.jpeg

closest I have is open in an another tab and drag across, as when you drag a tab out of Firefox it sees it as a separate process, and creates its own area to show tabs in. They don't share. So videos would show on the long display and not on the good one.

Bound to be software that does it... just not youtube. Why would they make it easier for users, they don't need to anymore.

Every once in a while it asks me to reset my PIN but that is something I need to fix... I just never feel like it 🙂

It's really annoying that every Windows update resets my network sharing settings.
not sure if there is an answer here or just people complaining about it

April - Windows updates somehow caused my PC to shut down slowly, none of the suggested fixes applied to my PC
May - Windows update fixed shut down, its back to normal

I had a feeling it would fix itself, as I hadn't done anything to cause it.

Reminds me of network problems, I have learned to just wait as if I haven't changed anything, It will probably fix itself.

There was a decent answer there, but it wasn't given by the Microsoft rep. I don't know how they get people for that job. I think they are volunteers, maybe. I'm not exaggerating, but I don't think I've ever seen a Microsoft rep give a good answer.

Its likely only certain level assistants help you on the forums, the guys who actually know what they are doing are several layers up. Its how you run any query system, have people who know the easy questions at first level to siphon out a lot of the easy questions, and only the ones they can't fix are looked at by 2nd and 3rd layers.

I think over the time I used them as a source of possible answers, I did find some. MS forums appear to be a place to vent.

Nice of Google to encourage the usage of other Search engines now.
I mean, if they going to break their website, its their choice.

I will need to find a new home page I guess.

Wonder how long before they remove the URL line, as how dare people just find websites themselves.

Hate to be a website that relied on clicks on ads to survive... IE, all of them.

For Windows users, Firefox 152 promises support for High Dynamic Range (HDR) video playback on Windows 10 and Windows 11 systems with HDR displays connected to AMD or NVIDIA GPUs, except for Intel/NVIDIA hybrid laptops.

Much rejoicing, one less reason to use Chrome. Right now, only way to watch HDR videos is on Chromium based browsers - you can enable flags on Firefox to enable it now - but after June 16 it will have full native support.

Its sad that windows won't let you pin apps to the 2nd monitor, you have to buy Display Fusion to do it
Same also goes for its slideshow feature, it only swaps main monitor and leaves 2nd one alone... display fusion can run two...

Guess I need to buy it then.

Probably buy it next week. The free version is too limited

last night I noticed something weird

Youtube titles on Firefox were showing as Italics, but if I looked on Chrome they were normal.

Fix was delete my cache, which I found was about 1gb in size

While loading pages is a little slower now, it fixed another problem I had been living with, where if I scrolled down the recommended page, and released mouse button, page would scroll up a little bit.

spoke too soon, but the scroll behaviour could be related to ad blockers so I just put up with it.

Update windows 11 if you got a slow PC

Low Latency Profile boosts CPU frequency for a few seconds (1 to 3) to make your PC run faster. If the gradual rollout includes your PC, Microsoft will automatically turn on Low Latency Profile, which will allow the Start menu, Notification Center, or Quick Settings to load faster.

For example, when you open the Start menu, it maxes out your CPU frequency to load the UI quickly.

This means the Low Latency Profile can successfully eliminate UI lag, and it does not affect the overall performance of the system as it runs briefly.

I didn't notice much of a change but:
It’s also worth noting that Low Latency Profile’s impact is barely noticeable on high-end PCs, as they’re already faster.

I should update my old PC. Maybe I wait until 26H2 is released.
