Question Persistent 2-second black screen during Alt-Tab and settings changes on Windows 11 (ViewSonic XG2431)

Hi everyone,
I'm experiencing a frustrating issue with my monitor briefly losing signal (black screen) during Alt-Tab and graphic settings changes.
My Setup:
  • OS: Windows 11
  • Monitor: ViewSonic XG2431 (running at 240Hz)
  • Windows Resolution: 1920x1080 @ 239.76Hz (Native)
  • GPU: NVIDIA (latest drivers)
The Problem:
When playing CS2 on stretched 4:3 resolution (1440x1080), every Alt-Tab causes a 2-second black screen before the game or desktop appears. Furthermore, changing any video setting inside CS2 results in a 4-second black screen.
Crucially, this is not just a CS2 or resolution mismatch issue. In Fortnite, which I play at native 1920x1080 resolution, the exact same behavior occurs—Alt-Tabbing and changing settings triggers the same black screens.
It behaves as if the monitor or system forces a full display mode/handshake reset every single time, rather than just switching windows seamlessly.
What I've tried so far:
  1. Set "Perform scaling on:" to GPU in NVIDIA Control Panel.
  2. Disabled Fullscreen Optimizations in cs2.exe properties.
  3. Disabled MPO (Multi-Plane Overlay) using the official NVIDIA registry fix.
None of these steps helped. Any suggestions or deeper troubleshooting steps on what might be causing this handshake/rescaling lag?
Thanks in advance for your help!

have you tried older Nvidia drivers?

Do you know how to use DDU? Might need to run it to install the older Nvidia drivers - if you try that idea
Download it from here:
  1. Unzip and install app.
  2. Boot into safe mode
  3. Run DDU in safe mode and remove Nvidia drivers
  4. boot back into windows and install drivers.
have you tried playing the games in borderless windowed (or windowed fullscreen). This prevents Windows from having to re-adjust the display resolution when you tab out.

other suggestions:

its unlikely to be the monitor.

Okay, so i dont think its about nvidia drivers. This problem didnt occur recently, i have it for few months so i updated graphic card a lot from then. But now it started annoying me. I tried to play on windowed fullscreen and everything seems to be fine then. I also tried to connect this monitor trough hdmi, and it shortened the black screen - didnt erase this phenomenon but black screens were shorter. I bought better display port cable thinking it will do some change, but no it didnt help. Maybe this windowed fullscreen is the key to it. I'll read this article u linked maybe there i will find something

waves @Lutfij

which forum you want to solve on? you answered on th

Other possible answers

They make monitors so might have a clue.

It could be cable still maybe: what speed DP cable did you buy, It needs to be DP 1.2 but 1.4 is more preferred.

I had to replace my DP cable today, as my 1440p 144hz LG monitor would turn off starting windows, likely I had used same cable for 10 years so it was due. it had always been strange at start up but I was able to ignore it when it was only monitor, but now its my 2nd and it not starting with windows was getting worse.

replaced it with a 8k@60hz cable and so far its started everytime. It can run 1440p at 240hz so would easily be enough for 1080p. If it still happened after that cable, it isn't likely to be the cable.

it would be too much of a coincidence if it were the cable. So it probably is one of the other causes.
