Hi,
I don't really know anything about hardware in general but I made this config with ChatGPT and some articles help, what do you think about it knowing that I'm gonna start some computer science studies and will get into machine learning in a year or so? I'm looking for something that I can keep for years, I'm gonna buy everything new.
Is there any components that I can change for a cheaper version for the same-ish quality? Is there any non-compatible components?

Here is the config: PCPartPicker Part List

Well you're a legend thank you so much, that's amazing ahaha!!
Do you mind me asking few questions to better understand what you've done here? Like why did you choose this CPU over the one I picked? Obviously it's cheaper but how do you know the performances are going to be the same? Because I was like yeah 9 > 7 so surely i9 is better than i7 lol

Newer architecture with plenty of threads not to mention it supports DDR5.

More on that cpu.

Sick! And how do you know it will be compatible with the motherboard? Do you pick the CPU first and then see what motherboard would fit?

Those boards will also support these cpu's which are due for release this October.

I see, and I just have two quick questions about the storage:

1) Why pick a SATA SSD and not another M2 SSD? Any particular reason?

2) Which one will be my C: drive when installing Windows? Will I be able to pick?
Because of the limited amount of PCIe lanes with the B760 boards. If you want to run two M.2 SSD's then look at the Z790 chipset.

Example ...

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/8m6p99/msi-pro-z790-a-wifi-atx-lga1700-motherboard-pro-z790-a-wifi
MSI PRO Z790-A WIFI $195.99

And also, as mentioned before, the B760 got two M.2 slots:
- M.2_1 Source (From CPU) supports up to PCIe 4.0 x4 , supports 22110/2280/2260/2242 devices
- M.2_2 Source (From Chipset) supports up to PCIe 4.0 x4 / SATA mode, supports 2280/2260/2242 devices
To which one am I supposed to plug the M.2 SSD to? What's the difference? I don't really get the "From CPU" and "From Chipset" thing :disrelieved:

Oh god good to know, now I'll just have to remember that when building the PC ahaha

Do I want that? Will I feel such a big performance difference for the potential price difference?
My thoughts on that is one M.2 SSD seeing how if you were ever forced to do a full reinstall of Windows you can redownload most everything including games, apps, etc ... For the things you can't redownload including docs, photos, vids, etc ... you can use a cheap 1TB SATA SSD.

Example:

TEAMGROUP T-Force Vulcan Z 1TB 2.5" SATA III SSD $35.09

Okay easy! Now, if I tell you that I'm actually gonna partition one disk (probably the M.2) for a Windows/Linux dual boot. Like I'm gonna dev on Linux and game on Windows, which is basically what I'm doing now on a shitty PC lol
Does that change anything or it's totally fine if I keep this storage config?

No idea tbh. I've never dual booted. I've always been one of those boring Windows users.
