It was a Real Time Strategy style game done in full 3D. You have a miner or two that mine resources, you build units from those resources, build up a base, and try to fight off the Soviets. You can switch your pilot out between various types of tanks or even go on foot and use a sniper rifle.

I replayed it not too long ago for a while and it's still pretty fun. Controlling your allies can be a bit rough, but the battles are smooth and fun. However, you'll have little idea what you will be up against, so there's a pretty good chance that you'll lose your battle the first time you try. You'll have to re-play it until you hit upon a winning strategy, and then it's off to the next battle! I loved the game when I played it back in the late 90's, but the trial & error got tedious when replaying recently.

Anyone else play it?

I know that the topic is quite outdated, but since it was necroed, I want to point that there are remasters available of both Battlezone 1 and 2:
