New Intel Processor—or is it?

The purpose is to make the naming a bit less messy, you will still most likely still buy an I procesor for gaming (I3, I5, I7,I9). If i understand it correclty, and then if you want a steaming laptop you get an EVO and if you want something for work you get a vPro. For more specifik needs you get the old celeron and pentium which will now be called Intel Processor.
IF I understood this correctly.

I believe it is the opposite issue: Celeron and Pentium still have too much legendary brand recognition, even the lobotomized models on the market today are still sufficient for most people buying them and Intel needs to disappear those legacy legendary brands to facilitate upselling people with lightweight compute needs into its modern higher-end brands they don't actually need.

intel replaced them with the I series, but people just ignored them. Now they forcing the issue.

Thanks, looks like the author also doesn't see a clear picture:

While the merge may clear up some confusion between various Pentium and Celeron-branded laptop offerings, it might also create some new puzzlements.
And his conclusion:
if it does … will create a lot of confusion
Just seems strange to rename two iconic brands with one totally generic brand which has only one function—to generate the question "Which processor?"

♣ I recommend this laptop sir
♦ Which processor?
♣ Intel processor
♦ Sure, but which one?
♣ Intel processor
 FFS, WHICH ONE???

buy an AMD lol

its intentional. They want people buying the I3 to I9 CPU as Celeron/Pentium been around for decades now and they are fighting their own legacy getting people to look at the higher end CPU... calling I3 high end is a stretch. Entry lvl should be i5, their list of choices is too long and is damaging their profit chances.

if they stop calling them Celeron/Pentium, they hope people stop buying that range, meaning Intel can just stop making them, and they can concentrate on a smaller family.

With this new, streamlined brand architecture, Intel will continue to sharpen its focus on its flagship brands: Intel® Core™, Intel® Evo™ and Intel vPro®.
