Need an advise please. I can buy i9 12900k for 500$ and 13900k for 1000$ (in my country) Is it worth 500$ more? Going to play in 3440x1440 RTX4090

I would go with a i7 13700k or 13600k. You'll be in the newest generation by intel and those are far cheaper and deliver amazing performance and can save you money. I believe that the 13700k has a performance on par with a 12900k and its cheaper than it.

Now, its up to you if you want to "brag" that you have the most cutting edge, most expensive CPU, is that worth the extra 500 for you?

Big, expensive CPUs get faster by putting more cores in so they can work more threads at once. The thing is... games tend to do most of their work on a single thread. Threads work best if they can work independently of everything going on in other threads, but that just doesn't happen much in games.

Given the performance difference, who's going to know if you have the more pricey version unless they bring up DxDiag or encode a video? ;)

This is the correct answer. Way easier to cool and better for gaming. Definitely the 13600 maybe the 13700k is cheaper too.
