I'm building a new PC. I was planning on buying piece-meal until the prices of the GPU went down but I found a new RTX3070 for around $650. Is this worth getting now or would I be better off waiting? Thanks for any input.

If you have the money then go for it. That cpu is meant for gaming at 1440P btw. If you're gaming at 1080P then I'd size down to a RTX 3060 Ti.

Thanks for the input. I'm really stuck an RTX 3070 Ti for $700 or a RTX 3060 Ti for $530. I mostly play FO4, Skyrim SE and some other open sandbox games but I purchased Metro Exodus and I can't get past the intro on my current PC and the Enhanced Edition is way beyond my PC. Thus looking at a new build because are just getting to need more. So I don't want to limit myself but I don't want to over extend on something I may not need.

Again your choice of card comes down to your monitor resolution and of course budget.

If you're looking at an inexpensive build then something like this paired up with a set of DDR4 3200 RAM is worth having a look at imo.

MSI PRO B660M-A DDR4 $129.99

Intel Core i5 Core 12400F $159.99

Benchmarks for the 12400 / 12400F

If you go the DDR5 route I'd have a look at this board and size up on your SSD. btw i7 ftw.

ASUS Prime Z690-A $279.99

PNY XLR8 CS3030 2TB M.2 PCIe NVMe Gen3 x4 Internal SSD $196.58

And for a DDR4 build this is worth looking at.

MSI MAG B660 TOMAHAWK WIFI DDR4 $189.99

or ...

ASUS TUF GAMING H670-PRO WIFI D4 $229.99 + $30 off w/ promo code ASUSMAY567, limited offer

https://www.newegg.com/intel-core-i7-12700f-core-i7-12th-gen/p/N82E16819118359
Intel Core i7-12700F $312.96

Scythe Fuma 2 Rev.B CPU Cooler $65.99

Review of that cpu.

Very good alternatives. Thanks for all your input. You have given me a lot to think about.

I already picked these up:
EVGA GeForce RTX 3070 Ti XC3 ULTRA GAMING, 08G-P5-3785-KL, 8GB GDDR6X, iCX3 Cooling, ARGB LED, Metal Backplate for $699
and
CORSAIR CARBIDE 275R Mid-Tower Gaming Case, Tempered Glass- Black $94
and already have a Corsair AX860 80 Plus Platinum GPU
So, I've started collecting my components and I'll let you know how I proceed.

I think waiting for the new one is better

well I'm continuing my build. So far I have added:
ASUS TUF Gaming Z690-Plus WiFi D4 LGA1700(Intel 12th Gen) ATX gaming motherboard
Intel Core i7-12700KF Desktop Processor
G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin SDRAM (PC4-28800) DDR4 3600 CL16-19-19-3
EVGA CLC 280mm All-In-One RGB LED CPU Liquid Cooler, 2x FX13 140mm PWM Fans
WD_BLACK™ SN850 NVMe™ SSD - 2TB

But I'm having trouble figuring out which operating software to go with. Win 10 or Win 11? Win 10 I know but it is at its end of life, Win 11 isn't out in retail copies yet, but is the future. Does anyone have a recommendation which I should go with?

Windows 11 was tailor made for Alder Lake due to the scheduler (big / little cores).
