Question Graphics card oops....help please!

I purchased a Radeon rx6900xt for my current gaming pc. I measured the length to ensure it would fit and felt good about my purchase....well when it arrived and I went to install it, length not the issue but the card thickness is something I did not take into account. I cannot install it due to hitting I believe a sound card and some wifi stuff on the mother board. Soooo trying to figure out my options....

Do I return the card? (not what I want to do)
Replace the mother board to something bigger with more room? If I do that, do I need a bigger case?

I'm not computer illiterate but not well versed either. Not trying to spend a ton a money when I could probably just buy a new pc at this point...

Current mother board: Gigabyte GA A320M
Current graphics card: AMD Radeon RX 570

Trying to install AMD Radeon rx6900xt


Any guidance would be greatly appreciated!!

Hey Kaamos_Llama ! I currently have an ATX-PR600W power supply but I did purchase a Corsair RM750x power supply for the upgraded graphics card. Slightly concerned that may not be enough though so I may need to return that for a larger one. But the power supply was purchased on amazon so that's an easy return.

Its a good PSU but unfortunately might be a little light for the GPU you chose.

Im also curious what your CPU and RAM are? Its possible youre trying to throw a jet engine in a Ford Fiesta here.

Can you list your full current specs and maximum budget ? Theres youre better off getting a refund on the card and PSU and building something more well rounded from scratch.

As for budget I would like to stay within what I have already spent between the graphics card and PSU which is about $1000. Not opposed to spending about $500 more if necessary.

Youre going to need to upgrade that CPU to balance the system out a bit, it would really hold back something as fast as the 6900X youve got.

Which exact revision is your motherboard? I believe with the latest BIOS you could use a Ryzen 5600 on the board. It wouldnt be my choice of motherboard because it lacks some durability around the power circuitry as all the very cheapest boards do, but it should be ok with a Ryzen 5600 at stock settings and thats a great CPU.

Once/if we've ensured its compatible and upgraded that CPU, the rest of the budget can go towards the GPU and PSU. What will fit will also depend on the case

Also may have a small problem as I'm reading Neweggs return policy and since the card is opened I may not be able to return....which then I guess I would have to upgrade the mother board as well as CPU

You can either return the card and get something like this, or keep it and just get the motherboard and CPU here, which are the best value options for AmD currently.

Looks like your case will fit a full ATX sized board, might have to buy of find some screw in stand offs to fit one, but that should be easy to source.

Be aware this might also result in you needing to buy a new Windows key, as they link to the motherboard. There are ways around if you call MS or use Windows without activating it though.

I'm sorry to say I was wrong, and your current motherboard actually only supports up to Ryzen 3000 series, which is some way behind the fastest chips out now and would hold back a 6900x more than I would be comfortable with depending on the game anyway.

However a 3600/x or 3700 is not a bad CPU by any stretch and is an option if you grabbed a smaller card. Anything more than that (3900/3950 )would likely break that motherboard over time as they use more power.

Haha awesome thank you! I'm about to leave for vacation tomorrow so I'm trying to get this figured out before hand lol.

So I think my plan is to go with the GPU and motherboard you suggested. Two questions from that...
Will I be able to fit/run the rx6900 xt with those? That's going to be a must now after I see I cannot return it.

Second, the rm750x power supply I purchased, can I use that or should I return and get the one you mentioned? Price difference is only like $20 so not a big deal returning the 750x.

I'd get an 850Watt PSU to be on the safe side, an RM or RMx like you picked before would do nicely.

The motherboard is good, but ideally youre going to want to upgrade that CPU as well. The 2300X you have is quite a bit slower than the 3300X in these charts.

I was going to go with the one you suggested, the AMD Ryzen 5 5600 3.5 GHz 6-Core Processor.

So that processor with the rx6900xt....850 watt power supply and the MSI B550-A PRO ATX AM4 Motherboard and should be set. Just pray that I don't screw up the install! Thank you very much for all the guidance. I'll order/return this stuff and hopefully when I get back from vacation in a week, put it all together and see what we get
