Getting really frustrated with my headset microphones...

Got a HyperX Cloud III during Amazon Prime Days, mostly for the microphone, and I can't get it working. I downloaded the HyperX software and have the latest driver. Windows 11 recognizes both the headphones and the microphone, and yet the microphone is not working. The headset is plugged in via USB.

I have a $9 USB microphone that works just fine, but when I test the headset, the max sound coming through is anywhere from 6 to 9 percent. What is worse is that the sound is significantly worse when using the USB versus using the sound jack, but then the microphone doesn't work at all.

I've tried all the USB ports. I have the mute button on the headset turned off. The settings in Windows 11 seem correct to me, as it recognizes both the headset and the microphone.

I'm at a complete loss.

My IEMs sound so much better than this headset. When plugged into the headphone jack, Windows doesn't recognize my headset and I have to use generic sound drivers. The first time I plugged it in, it recognized it, but after taking it out and putting it back in, it doesn't. This smells like a Windows problem to me.

USB uses the hyperX software, the Headphone jack uses the Soundcard on motherboard - 2 different sound devices.
Its normal for USB devices to need their own software.
Soundcard on motherboards don't control USB. Most use realtek chips and until recently they didn't have much to do with USB.

So its not the mute button as you get some sound.

both above are microsoft
Might not help, I haven't looked too hard :)

How many connectors are attached with the cable for the headphone jack? As microphones might be on another connection on motherboard. Often you need to plug two connections in to get a mic as well

ON my case I would need two, as there is an input on front for the headphones and one for mic (ignore how dirty it is, I can't see it until I take a photo)

this could be a conflict between Windows settings and HyperX software, btw. have you tried checking your default device settings for both playback and recording? set the the HyperX Cloud III as the default device, that might solve your issue.
