Whats making me wait a bit is that MSI and Asus have just released 34 inch UW models with the updated QD-OLED panels. From what Monitors Unboxed are saying the text is clearer and it doesnt suffer as much with blacks turning purplish from being in a very bright room. I wonder if there will be cheaper versions using the same panel quite soon, or deeper discounts on the Dell even.

The WOLED 34 inch 3440x1440p panels are still too rich for me unfortunately, but Ive been craving an OLED for a long time and this might be my onboard point.

The price here is 1500 more than the 32 inch 4k so that might be a deciding factor for me.

I plan on having monitor in a location it won't have a lot of light behind it, but the matte finish seems to have the best results. The gloss version of the 32 inch has a surface that can scratch easy, the new 360hz screens fix that

I can afford the 4k one a lot sooner than the UWHD ones. Probably in a few months in fact... now if I was mad. Longer I wait, maybe they release new one but I would have thought they use CES

Perhaps this is one of them.

the surface of the display was a flaw of the previous version.

Making sure I get a gen 3 and not previous when I buy will be a must.

Yea there are some really nice looking 4K ones with newer gen OLED panels than the UW Alienware, even cheaper ones. I'm just kind of thinking I would like something else other than the panel technology to be a big upgrade over my 27 inch 2560x1440 144hz IPS. I dont want to go 4K necessarily because Im happy with 1440p especially performance wise, but I wouldnt want to go 32inch 1440. I saw that one on a big sale and it got me thinking.

I would like to get HDR so that is what got me looking. OLED is a bit safer now.

34 would be bigger than what I have now. but more in a wide fashion, not taller. It took me ages to adjust to the width between 27 and a 32, I don't really need any more width. 32 perfect width to fit between my speaker stands

4k is more future proof than WQHD is to me. Next GPU (what ever that is) probably able to run 4k. Desktop will run in QHD anyway so I only notice in games. My GPU and PC far more capable of supporting it and I probably play using FSR 4 anyway.

Its also closer to the amount I am happy to pay. If it existed now, I could probably buy it. Probably show up in March. Maybe. I check back here in a month or so.

Perhaps I spend less this year than last few.

I finally got HDR, and except for a brief time when it needed to be calibrated, it's not something that I notice, sadly. If I had a second screen without it, I would see a big difference. But as it is, everything just looks as it should...

Never say never, but at the moment I totally agree. I'd potentially go for a 4k monitor at 32 inch minimum if graphics cards werent the price they are, but they do seem to be releasing quite a few 27 inch 4K OLED models which seems a bit unbalanced to me.

Samsung now pushing 5k 27inch monitors BUT they are dual mode and can run 1440p at 480hz
Only way these work is fake frames, just as well Nvidia can do 6x now. I do wonder though if it feels like 6x. Games aren't movies, there is more to it than just looking amazing

makes sense though as we had 4k for 10 years. Market been waiting for GPU to catch up

as long as someone keeps making 1080p then all the people on steam charts most popular GPU may be able to buy one.

Had to think about that for a minute. 5K is double QHD, so the pixels would fit, makes sense. Out of my range though.

I caved and ordered the Alienware AW3425DW, won't be getting it until the start of next month unfortunately, but quite exciting.

Well, the latest tech available is only in those wall sized panels I mentioned in another thread, no monitors use it yet and I expect they be out of my price range for a while to come

The next one I want is an QD OLED so I have yet to move to them

which you pick depends on how bright your room is, QD OLED is more vivid but isn't great in bright rooms. WOLED is better suited to bright rooms.

Hah, no I think 34 is about OK for me. actually I havent had any problem with 27.

Ive now read people saying that the pixel density on a 34 inch 3440x1440 monitor is 'a bit low'. I make it a just a decimal point higher than 27 inch 2560x1440. Are people trying to justify 27 inch 4k that hard now? 110 ppi might be the point I get off, it still looks pretty amazing to me.

I have had 27 inch 4k, I see it as too small. 32 inch is a better place to start from...

its more display makers trying to force people to upgrade to 4k since we were ignoring it. Since most are capable of dual mode now, selling a 4k screen that can also run 1080p at 480hz is one way to do it. Then panel makers want to convince you 4k is small and you should use 6k instead. So need to make some sizes extinct to make room for others.

Its silly, some screens can run at 720p 1000 fps... idiots can convince themselves they need that fast but I prefer image quality over blistering speed. That and I don't play games that benefit from that speed.

the panels that run super fast don't look amazing, its a trade off. The players who want 1000 fps don't care that it looks bad on angles other than square on the screen.

I told mum I wanted to buy a new monitor soon and she didn't even react... one obstacle down.

Makes sense theyre trying to get people to upgrade contantly. I just thought 4k was around the place for monitors where it starts to be zero extra benefit and they had to start looking at other ways of improving stuff that were more noticeable. Hence OLEDS, Mini LEDS, Ultra wides, response times, and crazy refresh rates. Now they seem to be making half steps to 8K as well. Good to have options I guess.

Refresh rate for me in single player action games is perfectly fine at 100. Contrast is the one thing Ive been missing, my IPS has the original LG NanoIPS 1ms panel that was as fast as it got when I bought it, OLED is apparently instantaneous so wont get any better than that.

They changed the delivery date again to between 13.2 and 18,2. Hopefully people keep on cancelling and I get it sooner.

I have a VA, I never knew its grey to grey was so slow. It really doesn't matter too much on the games I play but I see its side effects just on black screens.
Will be nice to have virtually instant. .03 seconds to transition.
Total black too since oled can turn pixels off
I just want HDR, I did look at HDR 5 years ago but it was too expensive at time.

I can do 100 now, in some things way more:

Our TV is a Samsung QLED-VA. I havent played any mouse and keyboard games there but I cant say Ive noticed any smearing. Helps if youre not sitting on top of it I suppose. Monitors went from CRT straight to TN, then 3 IPS in a row so Ive never seen a VA screen up close for PC gaming.

I don't know what type of monitors I have had besides their resolutions.
CRT that came with my IBM Aptiva
Samsung LCD maybe 720p, I can't remember exact model. The early samsungs weren't very big
2 1080p Samsung monitors that lasted me about 10 or more years between them. I hated the stand by light on one of them and there was no way to disable it. So I would turn monitor off each night instead of letting it stay in stand by. Eventually the power switch broke so had to replace it. I didn't repeat the same thing with its power light, just blocked it every night.
2015 I got a 4k Samsung monitor. (its in garage as a spare, just in case)
2020 I bought the current LG 1440p monitor. First screen I got that didn't have a standby light, joy.
2026 I probably buy a Asus 4k monitor that happens to have a Samsung panel.
turns out it could be LG. hmmm, need a review to confirm
Samsung make good screens. I have had 5 Galaxy phones in a row as well.

if I were happy with a previous model, the last 2 generation monitors are on special now for about 500 less than the new one will be.

I wonder if more stores will get it in February. If I was really smart I just wait a year and get new one on special. I don't think I will manage that.
