Read an article and decided to compile a table for all of us. Two tables below, one alphabetical by game title, the other by ascending map area.

Quick search gave me 5 sources with 2024 articles:
Gamerant 1
Gamerant 2
Destructoid
Dualshockers
Insider-gaming
I'm not familiar with the last 2, are they well-known and/or credible?

The biggest space games are 'Unknown' area as they deal in ultra-huge galactic areas.

5 Largest

Top 5 of the measured ones as a teaser:

Differences

As you can see, there are differences among the sources, especially for Minecraft. Could be as simple as a timing difference, ie map changed size due to updates—or maybe some sources include DLCs etc and others don't.

If you know the reason(s) please post, I assume the most meaningful figure would be what's available now including expansions, DLCs and patches.

If you have games to add, or different measures, please post a link to a reasonably credible source for the new measurement(s).

It's hard to compare them because the modes of travel and game expectations are so different. Not only does Microsoft Simulator give you jets to fly around in, there's also no expectation that you cover even half the map. If all you had was a Cessna and you had to fly from Brazil to Siberia, there would be trouble!

Meanwhile, a game like Horizon: Forbidden West has (I'm guessing) under 10 square miles, but you're expected to travel all over it, mostly by foot! {I think I posted earlier about how amazed I am at how games with such small areas can fool you into making it seem big - at least I meant to post that. H:FW has entire mountain ranges but, in reality, you could only fit maybe two mountains into an area that small.}

Gameranx has no shame! Couldn't wait even a day before jumping on my bandwagon :D

Exactly. I would like to see an "expected time to travel" or something like that, as well as whether the world is handcrafted or procedurally generated and how much of the game world 90% of players actually end up seeing.

Well, only 91% of players managed to get out of the tutorial in Baldur's Gate 3, so I bet most games won't have much! (Unless mods stop achievements in BG3? Hmmm...)
