Hello everyone ! ive had some issue with my pc for a little moment .

When im starting a game (im mainly playing COD and Arena breakout ) everything runs fine , but after 1-2 game , the game just crash and i get a black screen for a few second and everything go back like nothing happen .

I tried many thing :

  • Going back to windows 10 , going back again on windows 11
  • going back to the old version of the gpu driver and after trying that i installed the new one
  • did a memory diagnostic
  • checked the hardware to see if something was not tight
  • i brought the pc to canada computer to get it checked , he said that everything was running fine but the only thing he could see might be the power supply wich could maybe not give enough power to the gpu
the only place i get an error is on COD : its a directX error with numbers but when i look it up the answer to solve the issue is always different and i tried most of the things , heres the numbers : Error code : 0x887A0005 (0x887A0006) (6068) D

Like i said up there , the guy said it could be the psu but i want to make sure before buying a new one for nothing .

Heres my specs :

CPU : AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D

GPU: AMD RX 7900 XTX Red Devil

Power supply : corsair SF750

Ram : G.Skill trident Z5 RGB 2x16 DDR5 6400 ( set to 5900)

the problem does not come from heating , i did many stress test and everything was fine on that side

If someone could help me i would be forever thankfull , thanks !

(p.s : english is not my main language , please dont be to harsh on me )

UPDATE : just changed the PSU for a 850W and still happening
Did a PPU too , problem still happening
Did a Memtest , no error in the test

what motherboard? Do you have latest BIOS?
Have you tried with xmp off?
What make/Model PSU do you have now?
I have your GPUs brother... the Red Devil 7900XT and when I bought it, it was unclear how much power it needed. So I upgraded to a 1kw PSU and now I run PSU calculators they all estimate I use half of that.

Error code : 0x887A0005 (0x887A0006) (6068) D

Most of the time, DirectX errors are the GPU drivers

have you got latest Adrenalin drivers?
Did a PPU too , problem still happening
What is a PPU? Do you mean DDU?
Have you run ddu in safe mode to reinstall drivers?
  1. install DDU
  2. Boot into safe mode
  3. run DDU and uninstall all AMD display drivers
  4. restart into Windows normal mode
  5. Install Adrenalin

what temperatures are you getting on both CPU & GPU. What hot spot temp show in Adrenalin?
(I can only see it if I enable the Overlay)

The hotspot on the XTX was a problem on early models, not sure if it is fixed or not. I would expect it should be a few years later.

No new firmware as such for the GPU. Powercolor still listing a 5 month old version of Adrenalin as its drivers. 24.12.1 should work with it

Is it only those 2 games?

Have you looked in Reliability History when the crashes occur to see if windows is showing anything?

can you open System Information page
  1. in the left hand column, click the + next to Software Environment
  2. Click on windows error reporting
  3. wait for the right hand column to populate
  4. don't sort by dates as it sorts them wrong. Just leave that column alone
  5. sort by type as there are only two of them.
  6. expand the details column so you can read the text - might need to go full screen as its wide.

Now are there any:
Radar Pre leak
- this is a memory leak in the application and windows will close it to prevent problems (I see I have it in Firefox)
Bex errors - A BEX error is a “Buffer Overflow Exception”. This error is typically raised when Microsoft Windows detects that a program tries to put more data than possible in a region of memory. This is the computer equivalent of overfilling a glass with water until the water spills over

Both of these are application errors.

Hey there ! Ill respond point by point :

first , my Board is a Gigabyte B650 GAMING X AX , iand yeah the BIOS is up to date .

My new PSU is the corsair SF850L 80+ GOLD , so i guess there should not be any problem there .

Second , yeah i meant DDU , Did it like they recommended , unplugged the wifi/ethernet , put windows in safe mode and did a clean uninstall and reinstalled it after the reboot

For the temperature , when i look at it its always in the 60 (gpu and cpu ) but ill have to try the overlay for the Hotspot

For the games , im kindof only playing 2 games ( Call of duty mw3 and arena breakout infinite ) , i play some Gmod but never had a problem until yesterday where i got an error message saying that my Gpu probably ran out of memory .. the only game that give me an error code is COD with the directX one ..

i think it can answer all the question you asked , if not feel free to add more , i would be happy to answer to finally solve that problem

So i just tried playing again and ive got 2 critical event :
first one is a windows Hardware error :

60C isn't that hot on either really.

where i got an error message saying that my Gpu probably ran out of memory
that is an odd error to get on a card with 24gb VRAM.
How old is the GPU?
some people in above thread have your card

live kernel 142 seems to happen a lot around GPU crashes.

which adrenalin drivers are you on? Current is 24.12.1
Are you on latest chipset drivers for motherboard?

i brought the pc to canada computer to get it checked , he said that everything was running fine but the only thing he could see might be the power supply wich could maybe not give enough power to the gpu
did you ask them to try to play the two games that cause problems?

Honestly , i bought the PC used , i know people dont recommend it but it was cheaper than buying everything new , but now i regret spending a few more 100$ ... so i dont know how old it is but i jut send a message to the AMD support to know if the card is still under warranty ... so we will know soon .

for the chipset , i really dont know and im scared to install one and its not the right one , any way to make sure wich one to take ? i could send you a pic of info you need or something , i dont want to break the pc more than it is ...

and for canada computer , i didnt , i think he said he played The Finals but im thinking that if its doing it on the 2 games i play , at this point it should do it on more ..

Chip set is easy, goto your motherboard manufacturer page, it will have a drivers, bios, tools section, dl the latest chipset, double click the exe let it finish and restart the comp. It's as easy as it gets.

Also type sys info in the search box. It will list your motherboard and bios version. Check on the mother board pages bios section to see if it's the latest. If not see what the other versions add. My board is 4 years old and the just released yet another stability patch 6 months ago. So some companies support for years. Bios, chip set and properly tweaked bios can fix the rarest of crash issues

the thing that im missing is the rev like when i choose my board ( Gigabyte b650 Gaming x AX ) theres multiples choice , rev 1.0 , rev 1.1 , rev 1.2 , rev 1.3 , rev 1.4 , rev 1.5 , cant find anywhere wich one to choose or something . i might be dumb too but when i look at the version in the sys info , the bios version is FB2 but when i click for exemple on the REV 1.5 , i only see F32 and below , dont see any FB2

never mind , just found it , looks like my bios was behind too , , just did my chipset and bios , we will see how it goes

pretty crazy there are so many revisions on that board. Its likely it should be stenciled onto the motherboard

I assume you were on 1.3 since Fb2 was only 3 behind on that version. they seem to be stuck on FB3B now

chipset drivers aren't as specific, they match the model not the revision since they made by AMD. So any of the copies off any revision should have worked.

I would have contacted Powercolor but if its a used PC, they may not be of much assistance. It does depend when it was bought I guess. By the original owner. I don't know how a warranty works on a 2nd hand purchase, something tells me it doesn't.

The oldest the 7900XTX can be is December 2022. As I bought mine the day it was released. Its just 2 years old now. I was a little slow, by time I realised it was out... I missed the XTX but got an XT. Good enough. Red Devils are still impossible to get here.

I can't tell if that memory leak was fixed as I don't see any mention it since May.
I would run benchmark programs like 3dmark, Heaven and just see if they too have any problems. Might need to run some on repeat if it takes time for the black screen errors.

Pull the side case off and read the seria number that's on the board. then you can contact support to get the correct version. I'm not all that familiar with the current AMD stuff and never used gigabyte, but with the serial support can give you exact info.

As far as support goes, if the previous owner never called them, they basically will treat you as the purchaser. It's not like the typically ask for bull of sale. That stuff is typically on a time line. Also warranties if still active often transfer anyway. But comps typically have just a year, but manufacturer is often longer.
