Question Does USB-C connector work for high refresh monitors?

I'm buying a laptop for my son. His current monitor has DP and HDMI. I see the newer laptops have USB-C connectors. If I purchase a USB-C docking station and connect his monitor using the DP to a DP on the docking station and connect the docking station to the laptop via USB-C will he still get the 144 MHz refresh rate on the laptop?
